I've been working on the little things on the new 1969 Charger. I have noticed it has a certain smell. I think it's because the car has leather seats. I've smelled it before in old Mercedes etc. It's kind of cool but kind of annoying. Any way to get rid of it without masking it with air fresheners?

the smell may be coming from your carpet. it absorbs all kinds of smells/odors. shampoo it or replace if worn

You sure it's not the stench of your old chevy parts carried over into the charger? lmao

Mercedes, Audi, and VW have a distinctive odor because of the seat material they use, called MB-Tex. I find that most US-built Fifties cars have an odor all their own, and most Sixties and Seventies US-built cars have a different aroma yet. It is directly related to the interior materials, and their state of decomposition over the decades.

hmmmm........... original smell.......... could be a selling point

Thats one of my favorite things about my old cars! :headbang:

Make sure the little Mice didn't get into your ride and make a nest somewhere while it was in storage over the winter!

Time Warp, yea.

I think I will yank the carpet at the end of this season. It's original so I don't want to replace it if I don't have to. The guy before me painted the arm rests. The paint is off by about 4 shades of blue. Now in the sun they get sticky. Gross. I going to keep conditioning the leather seats all summer. They have cracks and creases but not too bad for original. They are hard as a rock though.

I have noticed that old Mopars have a smell all their own due to manufacturing techniques of interior pieces from that time era

Sonny says don't touch his headliner. Sometimes that old car smell is mildew in the fabric. You could try a liberal dousing with a product like Lysol spray or an equivalent mold and mildew killer. Test it first to make sure it won't discolor the fabric.

Bought a truck for my daughter that someone had smoked in for years and it stank! Cleaned the interior then had Serve Pro (a fire resto co.) Put an ionizer in it over the weekend and it doesn't stink anymore. It was $125 for the for the weekend but we'll worth it

E knows Sonny's girlfriend grabs the headliner instead of grabbing me when I "punch it":3gears: unexpectedly!.. ....I do tell
her "Hands off the headliner!" and she says....... "too many rules"!!!...:icon_sunny:and will not ride with me!....she needs a good spanking!

Or try Fabreeze {fabric odor remover/neutralizer}
try it somewhere to see if it effects the material 1st thou,
it shouldn't hurt anything, but always good to check

give her a thorough cleaning maybe

like someone else said it's probably carpeting your smelling more than anything else

if it is leather interior, use some leather conditioner to soften it up some, bring it back to life
it's actually good for it too, work it in real good, it will have it's own distinctive smell too

good luck & happy Moparing
