Jeers to UPS - 2nd restored AC Box Destroyed!!

I just had Fedex lose a Gallon of paint. If they kicked it into the truck I hope they got splashed.

I don't know what the deal is with UPS, but they insist on doing the packing for items to be insured. This is round 2 trying to get a restored AC box. This is the second time the packing has been so utterly shitty that the A/C box arrived in pieces :mad::mad:.

Whoever is telling you that just doesn't want to do the packaging. I ship UPS insured all the time with my packaging. No questions asked.

UPS, USPS and FedEx are all like any large company in that they all have great, good, average and totally worthless employees all under one roof. They all have their pros and cons. Letting any of them do the packaging for you would be the biggest mistake of all. The idiot letting them do that is your problem person in this instance. Probably using one of those "shipping stores" because he's too lazy to do it himself and just figures the insurance will cover it.

I did a little digging on what you're saying, and it's pretty evident from UPS's own website that they don't actually insure anything. You set a declared value of your item, and if your packing doesn't meet their packaging guidelines they will not be responsible. I also read over their packaging guidelines, which are extremely vague and reference the following standards organization - https://www.ista.org/forms/3Aoverview.pdf. If you want actual insurance, you have to purchase it through a 3rd party, which UPS does not provide. So if you want to get the full declared value, you have to use their service as they are "pro's" and know how to pack according to those guidelines. If you don't use their packing services, you are at their mercy as to whether they will reimburse you for the full declared value as they will reference the packaging guidelines as their first line of refusal to pay. This lines up with what the guy was telling me that UPS refused to reimburse on a few packages he had sent in the past that were damaged, and essentially forced him into using their service as means to get covered.

I guess in 15 years of shipping stuff UPS, I've had zero lost or damaged items.... and I've shipped an incredible amount of stuff via UPS. Having said that, I usually find the term "pro" means they do it for a living but almost never means they're any good at it...

I dislike ups as well they destroyed a one year only rare dash I bought a few years back. Same thing I had a declared value they went through the whole packing thing. I kept after them and finally got my money. But over 40 years in this hobby I have to say that USPO as well as FedEx have all broken or lost several packages too. Its a crap shoot.

I agree there, but my rub is that they have destroyed the same item 2 times now and all because they push people into using their services. I still have my original and another spare that I am going to try and do myself now or go with an aftermarket solution.
