Jimmy Carter won't be down

I still have a full bottle of "Billy Beer" in my collection.
I had a can of Billy Beer that my mom gave me for Christmas one year well before I was 21. Eventually the beer evaporated and the can rusted so I threw it out.

Don't want to highjack the thread, but Billy beer was made by my hometown brewery, FALLS CITY, as a last ditch effort to save itself. FALLS CITY had been the sole survivor of Louisville, Kentucky breweries and tried producing a light beer at a heavily discounted price called DRUMMOND BROS. When DRUMMOND BROS was pulled FALLS CITY tried one last time to get Billy Carter to agree to a marketing agreement. It was basically DRUMMOND BROS recipe repackaged. After the hype of the beer's release sales fell and FALLS CITY closed it's doors (and the brewery equipment sold to a broker who sold it to Russians). Billy Carter returned his beer loyalty to Pabst Blue Ribbon.

A local scrape metal company in Louisville actually made a deal with Junior Achievement to take the remaining thousands of Billy Beer unused cans and make 25 watt black light lamps. I had one and I think my mom gave it to the Salvation Army when I left home in 1983. To this day I look on eBay and at thrift stores for one of those lamps.

Well.......It's not really a thread until it's been hijacked, is it?

Horrible president.

Gave away the Panama Canal.
Created the Dept. of Education to funnel billions to teachers unions.
Stagflation.
Gas rationing.
Cancelled the B1 Bomber.
Revealed to the world that we had stealth technology.
Iran hostage crisis.

Carter had an annoying habit of giving a smile when he was speaking, especially when giving bad news. He was also lambasted for his daughter giving him advice.

I say good... & bye

Well... I had mortgage rates of 11.5 % & 12.75 %
I had 14% (still) on a 15 year mortgage, when I bought my 1st house at
18 y/o, in Antioch, the summer of 1977, with nearly perfect 850 credit score...

I wasn't old enough to vote for Carter in 1976 :icon_fU: ,
& in 1980 I was old enough to vote, for Reagan :usflag:

He pardoned the draft dodgers. I’ll never get over that. Good intentions perhaps but remarkable in his incompetence.

Carter did one thing everyone likes. He signed the bill to make it legal to home brew beer.

A history lesson and why we must remember the truth about Carter. The man has a lot to explain, RIP.

quote
"Just because someone dies, does not absolve them of responsibility and accountability for the choices they made in life. Their actions impacted humanity and reality cannot be ignored".

"I just heard of the news about the passing of President Jimmy Carter. Those of us who have been fortunate to have served as President understand this is a very exclusive club, and only we can relate to the enormous responsibility of leading the Greatest Nation in History.

The challenges Jimmy faced as President came at a pivotal time for our country and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude.

Melania and I are thinking warmly of the Carter Family and their loved ones during this difficult time. We urge everyone to keep them in their hearts and prayers."

In a separate post about an hour later, Trump wrote:

"President Jimmy Carter is dead at 100 years of age. While I strongly disagreed with him philosophically and politically, I also realized that he truly loved and respected our Country, and all it stands for. He worked hard to make America a better place, and for that I give him my highest respect. He was a truly good man and, of course, will be greatly missed. He was also very consequential, far more than most Presidents, after he left the Oval Office. Warmest condolences from Melania and I to his wonderful family!"

Amen. Can’t believe I’m reading this. While I didn’t agree with a lot of JC policies, he was still a good man. May he rest in peace.

His letter aboard Voyager I may likely outlast most other things on our planet; maybe even Keith Richards.:p

Voyager Spacecraft Statement by the President.

July 29, 1977
This Voyager spacecraft was constructed by the United States of America. We are a community of 240 million human beings among the more than 4 billion who inhabit the planet Earth. We human beings are still divided into nation states, but these states are rapidly becoming a single global civilization.

We cast this message into the cosmos. It is likely to survive a billion years into our future, when our civilization is profoundly altered and the surface of the Earth may be vastly changed. Of the 200 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy, some--perhaps many--may have inhabited planets and spacefaring civilizations. If one such civilization intercepts Voyager and can understand these recorded contents, here is our message:

This is a present from a small distant world, a token of our sounds, our science, our images, our music, our thoughts, and our feelings. We are attempting to survive our time so we may live into yours. We hope someday, having solved the problems we face, to join a community of galactic civilizations. This record represents our hope and our determination, and our good will in a vast and awesome universe.

***
Note: The statement has been placed in a National Aeronautics and Space Administration Voyager spacecraft which is scheduled to be launched August 20. The statement is recorded in electronic impulses which can be converted into printed words.
