Junkyard Rant

That's the way it used to be in this hobby. When I was with Mid-Atlantic Mopars back in the 1980s we would have three or four get togethers every year, and we would toss whatever spare parts we didn't need into the trunk and trade or give them away to people who needed them. Now every time I consider giving something away I have to wonder if it's going on a car or on ebay.

I just gave away a set of 215-70-14 tires that were in nice shape after I replaced them with 225s, but I know the guy I gave them to and the project car he's working on, plus I didn't have the room for four tires sitting around. Plus if I had let the tire dealer keep them I would have had to pay a disposal fee, so it worked out. :)

A little word to the wise; Hoarders dont make money, but the people that inheret from them do.

I think the ones who really make the money are the ones the inheritors hire to take away all the "crap" that they inherited and have no idea what it's worth, or the dumpster divers who find it after it's been dumped.

a while back a sold a rusty dual cutout 73-74 charger valance to a guy who said he was going to cut it up for the cutouts to graft them into his standard valance for $25.00 plus shipping. He gave me a hard luck story which is why i sold it so cheap. About a month later he listed it on ebag as a whole part and got like $100.00 out of it. When the listing was active i posted a question stating that he must not have need the cutouts as bad as he said and he gave me a lame excuse.

As far as the junkyard goes, it will be a while before i go back there and i hope they get stuck with every last one of those hood ornaments.

Oh and i agree 100% that the american pickers epidemic has definitely influenced what people think they can get out of there junk. Similar to how the barrett jackson auctions made everyone think there rusted out /6 dart 4door was worth a million bucks a few years back. I still can't find a decent parts car around in the western pa tri-state area for under a grand when just a few years ago i was buying savable cars for 6-$900.00

Yep there are the peopel that think, their rusty old parts are worth the price/weight of GOLD, but when trying to buy any parts, from someone else, for their own projects, god forbid they won't pay **** for them...

Don't let it get ya down. Afew weeks back one of my customers decided we wern't kissing his butt properly and called tryin to create a rukus, chewed the boss and all. What he did not know is that is about the 60th time he gave us crap for no good reason and when I takled to the boss I was told that he would rather have me than that loudmouth. And that aint even the best part Three weeks abter he pulled that B.S. Lightning struck and on our side it cost them 20 large not to mention all the rest of the stuff he had to deal with others on.
It just goes to prove like I say... Karma is only a bitch if you are

I GAVE a friend a complete 8 3/4 rearend because he needed it for a project. He didnt have much money(or so I thought). In the past he was always a GM person & this was to be his 1st Mopar build. But I told him if he didnt go through with the project that I would like to get it back. Then he went through a divorce. He sold a nice alluminum bass boat,a 71 Dart which he had just converted to front & rear disc brakes & frame connectors,a 78 Dodge pickup all for $1500.The boat itself would sell for $4000 easy. When I asked about the rearend he said that he threw it in with the deal to sell the other stuff. By the way he sold all this stuff to a stranger & never offered to sell me any of it.
I've had that happen too....and those people usually never get to hang around me anymore.

No Friends in Business...........
I have to disagree with that statement. I have several friends that own businesses that treat me well but I also try to return the favor when they need one. 2 of them sell cars for a living and 1 owns a transmission shop. One of my buds said he broke his own rule by selling to a friend. He sold me a new truck back in 92 and it was a very good deal. We're still good friends today because we understand the meaning of what friendship is. I've sent numerous others to him including members of my family and everyone was happy but I also told them to not even try to haggle with him. My dad broke that rule lol

I sold a 65 coronet 500 awhile, back nice roller! He gave the speel about putting it back on the road,so I threw in a very nice 1/4! He took it home and immediately put it on craigs list! He even unload the thing, and even used the pic. I had taken for the original add.He had the gall to call me wanting more parts for it! That didn't happen!!!
Sold my ragtop to a 'friend' that half asses restored it. Put a new top on it, redid the interior and shot a cheap paint job on it. To him, it was a keeper and he would call me first if he ever decided to sell it. 6 months later he called and wanted 4 times what he paid for it. He didn't touch the mechanicals on the car now. Uh, thought it was a keeper. Told him no but thanks anyways. 2 weeks later the kid that bought it wrecked it and yup, 'old' buddy called looking for parts so he could fix it for him and guess who had all the parts to fix it? My prices were at the top of the spectrum but did he buy from me...nope. Go hunt for em somewhere else...old buddy cause you ain't making another dime off of me.

Called the cops!? WTH? I'm surprised the cops even showed up! What did the moron tell the cops that made them come out in the first place!? About 10 years ago I had a Challenger body for sale as a roller and I told the caller exactly what was still on it but when he got here all fired up about getting a perfect car and saw that it wasn't what he was dreaming about, he started raising hell and even cussing. Told him I had a 12 gage for people like him and reached for it. He stuck his *** in high gear and got lost and even shut up. lol

He was whinning to the cops I cheated him on the price. Cop said you made the offer ...he agreed. :toothy5: then told him he needs to go home and stop insulting people ... I lmao
