K-Frame Cradle

That looks nice and simple. At the end of the day, as long as it suits your purpose, easy to use, and is cheap to build - simple is best. Well done.

Yes mine was simple since this will be used once for my one and only project.....

I'll get some dimensions for you shortly if that's what you are looking for :)

Hey Kiwi...

Just reviewing this thread as I am in the process of building a cradle and planning on raising the body off the k member/motor/suspension assembly as well. I see in your pics that you were able to leave the diff in.

I've been thinking about the balance of the body while I am lifting the car off. I've removed the rear wheels, but the gas tank and differential ( drum to drum) are still in place. I am going to syphon off the remaining fuel, just to be sure.

Did you have any balance issues?

Was the fuel tank still strapped to the car?

Anyone else that has experience with this, comments are welcome...any help appreciated.

Thanks Dudes!:icon_thumright:

If you are worried about a balance issue, ratchet strap the car to the front arms of the lift. That should keep you at ease. Also, before you lift the car up all the way, try to lift the front of the car off the lift while it is still near the floor. I do this all the time just to make sure the car is balanced well.

Thanks WS...I do the same test when lifting...I just keep having this vision of...well you get the picture. Not sure why, I bet the car has been up and down on that lift at least 1000 times...always with the K member and motor in it!

I will take a look for a suitable spot to tie the car down with straps as well...

Here's what I fabbed up for mine...just getting around to posting a couple pics now.

This job started out as sending in my 727 for rebuild. After sending it out, I decided to drop the motor for some top end goodies and front suspension work. The screw jack relocates to the rear so you can pull the motor only, or drop the motor/trans together. In the pics, the rear brace and mount for the rear, aren't installed yet. It's the same as the one in the pic tho, that way you just un-bolt it and move it to the rear.

I'm always short of table or bench space, so I can throw down a piece of 3/4 plywood on it and use it as a rolling table/bench, when not in use as a cradle. Trying to make it useful as it's another chunk of steel I'm tripping over otherwise! Between engine stands, shop cranes, and now this, the floor space gets eaten up.

Thanks to all for posting up your ideas on this, they're all helpful!
