la 318 question

9 out of 10 times I would say go for the 4 barrel. This may be the time I say try it. You can get a 500 with elec choke also if that interests you. Make sure it opens freely and fully on your 2 barrel intake. It should be an improvement over the factory setup. If you still want a 4 barrel later you will have no problem selling the holley.

I almost just put one on the 400 in my Newport. I found a used 4 barrel intake cheap enough and already had a holley 650 spread bore ready to go.
Edelbrock 500 2 barrel with electric choke, better than Holley? I have problems with Holley's most of the time.

I've never seen a Edelbrock 500 2 barrel. Holley only. A 390 would probably work better.

The 500 won't bolt to a stock manifold. The 390 won't either. You would need an adapter. If it's a 318 LA, any 66 and newer intake up to the Magnum engines will bolt on.

I have not read the great majority of the posts in th8s thread, so I may be covering what someone else said,
So here I go.
I'd buy a small four barrel. 600, or 650 cfm, possibly a spread bore.
As a cruiser, you'll be on the small primary, maybe 250-300 cfm 95% of the time, instead of a 500 2bbl. Better gas mileage.
Plus, when you DO want to stand on it, the secondary can open up, and give more go-power than the two bbl.
I wouldn't be surprised if that 500 cfm 2bbl is intended as a race carb for restricted classes, and might be way rich tuned for a mild 318.
