I'm wanting to use original state tags on my ride. My state DMV allows this as long as someone else doesn't already have the numbers that you're wanting to use.

Now the problem I have is that the tags issued in 1962 had an expiration date of 3/31/63. Now should I be politically correct and use ones that have '63 for an expiration date or use tags with '62 on them to show that the car is a 1962?

Are you saying that all plates issued on/after 1-1-62 had the 3-31-63 expiration? Then the 63 is the only one to use, and you have a story to tell everyone who questions it.

The 62 plate would tell the world you didn't do your homework (which in fact you have).

Seems to depend on when the car was first sold. If you have a 62 car that has a scheduled production date after 3/31/62 then that wouldn't make much sense. I'd use whatever plate would be correct for your car.

I'm leaning toward the '63 exp. date. The '62 color would match the car better. I know, I think too much! :thinker:

Great looking plates. Personally i think period correct plates are a great touch for classic cars. After reading what you wrote I'd go with the 63 plates as well.

I did alot of research to ge the correct California plates on my 64. In CA they had a different process where my car would have had plates stamped with a 63 date.

If you decide to use the YOM plates, it seems worthwhile to use the plates that would have been available when the car was first sold. For those who are knowledgeable enough to ask about your plates, they will appreciate the research and details of your story.

Good point 65belv. And Welcome!
I found a real good site today. ricksplates.com He has all the info. on license plates, history, pics, DMV imfo. This guy really likes what he does! I found out the just on what the DMV does in this state to make this work. Not that impossible. Check out his site when you get the chance. It's very interesting to say the least. Bought a set of '63 tags today also!
