Lift off hood modification

We have all struggled with removing and installing our lift off hood. Paint get scratched and where to told it causes stress. I have a solution WITHOUT installing hinges. What is the point of a lift off hood if you have to remove hinges after all.

I have used some eyebolts in place of the fourth pop rivet. (with a big washer underneath)
I have attached two clip to some steel cable (covered with heatshrink to look pretty)
I have made them removable so only the eyebolts are left visible.
My setup is strong enough to carry a metal hood.
I have made the cable that little bit long so I can remove it once installed on car

I have a lift off hood and well know the issues you talk about in getting it off and on. I think you're idea is great and a pretty simple solution to a pita problem.

A dumb question as I'm pretty weak in the mechanical critical thinking space. What do you do about the shorter safety wires that come with the bezels. Do they still go on one of the other rivets or do you eye hook them onto your set up for permanent use when you're not in the lifting mode. Does that make any sense? Because you still want the cotter pins to keep the hood down while you're driving.

Yeah I thought about that bit of wire and wasn't actually sure what rivet it was meant to be under. I was going to put it under the eyebolt but then found it is going to touch my paint and left them off. I used the logic that they are only there so you don't loose the pins. And thats not worth having my paint scratched for. Please note the nut under the hood to hold the eyebolt on is a pain to get on, you Will drop it into the hood and want to cry. Make sure you have a magnet and magnetic hardware.

Please note when choosing a carabiner or similar device to attach to eyebolts don't cheap out $5 for 5 from china. This WILL result in your hood hitting something. The little ones used in the photo where ONLY installed for demonstration purposes. I use rock climbing ones. If its safe enough to climb a clift face with It should be ok for the hood.

I am thinking about skinning mine with carbon fiber or using the old one as a mold and make one. I made a package tray out of carbon fiber,
and kevlar/carbon fiber and kevlar. Damn strong, I shot a piece of it with my high power pellet gun and it just bounced off of it.

A couple of my friends warned me to not buy a fiberglass hood. After seeing this thread, I think I will go that route after all. With this mod done to the hood, I believe the issues are taken care of. I might even go with a trunk lid also, at some point. Thanks to all that have posted on this thread for your input.

Please note I am NOT responsible if you decide to lift by yourself (like I do) and sit the hood against that beer gut and it scratches the paint. I put a blanket over the front of the hood. They joys of enamel that hasn't been baked yet.
