And no, he won't sell it. Says it belongs to his son who lives in Houston. I left my phone number, but I'm not holding my breath that I'll hear from him again.

The only thing missing is a Headstone........RIP 68 Charger.

Tell him if he gives you the car,,,,,,,,you will PAINT HIS HOUSE:icon_rambo:

Man, I do love a `68 Charger, but that one is resting on its rear frame rails for a long time!.

that's a shame another b-body rotting into the ground! Looks like he thinks as much of his home as the car!

People should store these awsome cars better/I saw today some 71/72 satellites sitting rotting away also - its a sad thing

Well I can't fault the guy. Not everyone has the ability to store a future project indoors. My 68 Charger has been sitting in my driveway for years. I've had several people ask me to sell it. I never wanted to sell it cause, like so many with a classic car in the yard, I've always planned to some day restore it. I've been collecting parts for years, and last Saturday, we finally drove the Charger out of the driveway and loaded it onto a trailer and sent it off to the body shop. First time the Charger has left the driveway in at least six years. Heres a link to the pictures I took of my 68 last week.

The car is probably worth more than the house!!

The weather is pretty dry in that part of Texas (that is if it's in the Troy area) but there's still moisture in the ground. Sad indeed that they can't at least get it up off the ground better than just letting it sit on it's own factory built 'jack stands....'

I see it doubles as a work bench too, not that they are working on the house or anything!! Must be a coincidence.

Perhaps...NOT!

Funny how no thieves take cars like that.....

Hey don't give up on it yet! Give it about a month and go back and talk to his dad. Don't ask if he wants to sell, just express interest in it. Ask him about his own house since it's in dire need of help(only do this if you can offer some assistance). Don't necessarily try to be his bud, just let him know you're a decent guy and not someone who's just trying to flip it of take advantage of him. If the RIGHT oppurtunity comes up, offer to help get it on some blocks or whatever he has laying around. These guys are right, that sitting on the ground will kill it. Anyway, don't be a persistant PIA but check on it every month or so by communicating with the guy. Maybe you'll be lucky and he'll put you in touch with the son. That's where the real answer will come from as to whether or not it is for sale.

Go there with a trolley jack and some blocks of wood and just tell him you just want to get its arse off the ground so that when the son wants to restore it, the rust in th frame won't be as bad. Share a 6 pack with the old man while your doing it. Leave him your card, say thanks along with something like 'I just want to see cars like this saved....' and be on your way.
There'll be a message on your voicemail by the time you get home. =-)

That's a good idea! Do it! I've done this probably 3 times myself! There was this girl with a beautiful old Trans-am sitting behind the shed with the screaming eagle, shaker hood scoop, and a big block. I helped her pull in up out of the wood and on the driveway to stop it from sitting in the muck. We even put air in the tires and lubed up window tracks and hood. Even if you can't get it, it never hurts to try and help someone else save it. Especially a '68 Charger!
