I've been looking for a drag car since last November, not that many option around this side of the globe (Switzerland). over the months I've seen a few ones, but so far the one that I liked the most is one that is located in NY, a 1965 satellite, problem is I would have to ship it here, not that I haven't done it before, my 1967 I shipped from TX, it would be easier to get it locally.

I know that is not a B body, but what do you guys think, it is a roller.

ad says: "Plymouth Duster 1973, 10.00 Cage, 4-Link System, 8 ¾ Rear Axel 489 Case (4,56:1) , Kirkey Racing Seat, Drag Race Fuel Cell, Hood and Trunk Lid Fiberglass"

will probably go see it Friday or next week. 2:30hr away from me.

my problem with that car is that it has a 8 3/4 and not a dana. I've a hemi (well 1/2 of it so far) at the machine shop for a build.

I suppose it would make more sense for swap a dana 60 instead of trying to make the 8 3/4 stronger, right?

I like that car. I'd find out what engine it had. A small block could probably get by with the 8 3/4.
For your hemi, I think I'd put in a 9" or Dana 60. You could probably sell the 8 3/4, for decent money. I'd sell it before I broke it.
I'd ask what it weighs. The lighter it is, the more likely the 8 3/4 will live. But yeah, I wouldn't spend any money trying to brace the 8 3/4.

He said it had a SBC and a th400. I was hoping for a small block Mopar, so I could just put a 318 on it and have some fun until the hemi is ready.

Go ahead and do it. A stock stroke 318 will never hurt that 8 3/4! Might have too much gear for a mild 318.

Dana or a modular if you want strength and long lift. I know of small block cars that broke 8 3/4's. Do it once and do it right.

First, for a hemi in that Duster, I would put a 9" or Dana in it.
That said, a little investigation won't hurt.
(I'm betting it's not, but...) it could be a cone sure grip (posi), with shortened stock 30 spline axles. Goodbye rear.
OR, it could have good axles, and a 35 spline spool, with a good factory nodular iron center section. At that point, about all it would need would be a backbrace.
(and one that clears the shocks on the back. )
If it has a spool and 35 spline axles, I wouldn't bother with a backbrace.
