Looking for advice - thinking about buying 1968 coronet 440

I agree with post #19.Rust will overwhelm you.Floors, trunk floor replacement is not that bad, but, once you get into structure,I'd run too much $$$$$.A buddy bought a mid west 71 Cuda 340.Paid big bucks because it was a "71 Cuda".After 10+years the only parts that weren't replaced was the radiator support and the roof.Car is still not finished.Do some more looking..

Panels are one thing, structure you might as well find another or investing the kids college fund...
If the cross support is rusted I bet there are other pieces as bad or worse...
Im sure you can find something better for $7k...
Good luck!

Yep. Im sure by the time i got into it i would be hard pressed to find good metal to weld to.

I just really wonder what 5 or 6 grand is gonna get me in a 68 coronet? It seems u either spend 1500 and get nothing or u hav to spend 10k. And then u still have to track down interior.

Keep searching. You never know.

I've seen some good deals on here in the past 6 months. They usually go fast but they're here.

I think that car your looking at is going to stay in that guys driveway for a long time.
Don't get tempted.
I saw a 68 Coronet 440 from Texas go for 6k. A few months ago. It looked to be in really good shape.
About a month ago we saw a nice 70 coronet 500 go for $8500.
Both these cars were nice.
It's a buyers market for lower trimmed cars right now.

Ok , My 2 cents. If you really want a certain model look to the dry states.Nv,Az,the desert areas of eastern Oregon, southern Utah,New Mexico,OK etc. Stay away from any coastal areas.California dry areas only. It is worth it to spend a bit more.Fly in and look for yourself, drive it home or get back on the plane.Flights are cheaper than months of work. And you can be driving instead of wishing. I bought this for $1500.Runs drives and completely rust free Floors, trunk, quarters, doors, around the windows.Yes the interior was trash,so was the paint, but it was a complete car with not one part missing.Great staring point to do what you want.Even if it costs you 2 grand to get it home,,Nice car for $3500. They are out there...

Thats really nice. Yep really like those wide hips on the 68 69 girls.

For the amount of money I have in mine, I could have a Chevelle and a Goat.
I say
Keep em both. I take my 68-70 B-Body to hell with me. Lol

Ask yourself why you want to buy a car for any price that you have to put that much work and money into. Spend a little more and get a lot more. Unless you're a glutton for punishment and love to do rust repair - why?

My decision has been made. Im waiting for something more unique thats worth the work.
