Man, I've had lots of cheap and expensive headers during the 70's and 80's....but have no idea what's what these days. Never had to ding a header but there were some that needed to have a dimple. Never liked doing that but dyno tests over the last several years show it doesn't make a hill of beans and some of the tests showed 'bashed' headers and so long as they weren't pinched down to nothing, they worked. Things is, it just looks like crap imo.

Dems da ones. Not sure how many I've put on.. 383s, 440s,, slide em in and bolt em on.
They were the pinnacle of quality headers before tti showed up.
And they don't have to be coated.
I have a set of patriots I believe here. Possibly a hooker knock off

Never had good luck with hooker always had to ding them
As stated, these are 10+ years old ceramic coated Patriots. The car always sat on my carport until last Summer. I didn't have to ding to force fit them anywhere at all.

If you are considering aluminum heads for your build or at anytime in the future
Remember not all of these Headers will work with angled plugs
The Doug's work fine with my Edelbrock RPM Heads (angled plugs) and I dont burn any boots
I do use a protective sleeve over the boots

Thanks for the advice TN Mopar. My motor is at the engine builders right now getting torn all the way down so he knows what he’s working with and then we’re gonna figure out what to get. Do I need to have a H pipe installed? When I purchased the car it was just straight duels and dumped before the rear end. I have already purchased protective sleeves.

I have searched the internet and all I have found for the patriot long tube ceramic coated headers is for 67 and up can’t find a 66. Is there a difference in the 66 and 67?
I have an H pipe. I wouldn't think there would be a difference between 66 and 67 Charger's as far as headers are concerned.

I’m gonna call petronix and see I’m not saying I don’t trust your word I just want to double check that way if something is different they will take em back because that’s not chump change.
There's approximately 150 differences between a 66 and 67 charger..
But header fitment isn't one of them.
I have a 66 and 67 in my garage, 383s ,same hooker header. Just saying.

I appreciate it Remcharger believe me I do I just talked to petronix and they said they can’t tell me for sure if the patriots will fit just that it’s from 67-74 b&E body. And they wanna charge me a 15% restocking fee if I have to send them back and they can’t have any evidence of being installed. WTF how ya supposed to know if ya don’t try to put them on. I’m gonna see if anywhere else sells them without a restock fee if I need to send back.

unless you race this car--seriously race it--headers are a poor choise for a street car--get a set of late 60s performance manifolds and put a 2-1/2 inch exhaust system on and it will serve you very well for many years--maintenance is easier and youve put your money into manifolds that will last a lifetime--Dyno tests show very little improvement by installing headers on your application. I just viewed a 426 hemi and a 426 max wedge dyno'd first with headers and then with factory manifolds and was shocked to see only a few less HP readings and torque reading were even less of a drop. The Max wedge put out 546 hp @5400 rpm- and 560 torque @4800 rpm with headers and 523 hp @5700 rpm and 526 torque @4900 rpm with factory manifolds-- The Hemi had almost identical results when factory manifolds were tried --- Find some dyno tests and see--you will be surprised at how little headers help --for all out race cars--headers are the way to go--I know this will wrinkle alot of feathers here but truth is in the dyno results--your 383 will LOVE the hi performance manifolds alot more than headers.I cant wait to hear the flurry of crap over these statements.
Let me start. The only advantage with manifolds is the starter will be easier to remove. 23 hp is enough to justify a set of headers on anything in my opinion. Headers, aluminum intake, more compression, and the correct cam, it all adds up in the end.
