So I think my '68 Belvedere has something amiss. When I punch it to kick down, it immediately upshifts. I know I must have something out of adjustment (and I am at work so I can't post pics right now) but was wondering if anyone has any thoughts/ideas/experience with something like this.

Thanks!

just signing up to learn something..... I need to adjust my linkage too.

One would think you got the linkage ***-backwards or the throttle lever is on the tranny wrong. Much more info is required: car, engine, carb, cable or rod, and maybe a pic or two.

More info as Yahtzee says- that is completely ***-backwards.

It's also called a Throttle Pressure valve
& any number of adjustments could be wrong
several pieces to the linkages, to the carb,
rod with adj. ends down the back of the engine
& on front & top on the drivers-side of the trans,
just above the trans pan rail actual part of the linkage
that operates the throttle pressure valve...

It could be the second gear band, is way out of adjustment too
or a number of other issues
glazed up drum &/or sticking valve-body, {stiction}
