losing my little buddy

Sorry to hear that you are having to go through that. I feel your pain, those pooches are family and unlike kids they never get mad at you or hold resentment.
Was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do...
Hope the memories of all the happiness Flash brought you can ease the sorrow.
Prayers to you and the family.

i finally begged my way into a vet at 330 today, but i'm not allow to go in with him, they said they will give a shot to relax him him and and bring back out to me, he will fall asleep then they will take him back in for final shot and bring back so we can bring him home, man this sucks, he doesnt like strangers
Our thoughts are with you on this sad day for you. A lot of us of course, know exactly the sorrow and pain you're going thru pal. I'm starting to well up thinking on those memories! All the best.

thank you to every one. your words and thoughts make this a little more bearable. I had planned on a " farm vet" to come here and let him pass at home with his family, but the only one who would come out said it would be at least 2 weeks. I can not let him suffer another 2 weeks, although this is far from perfect, at least i know he will pass easy, and we will be holding him in our arms as he goes to sleep, although it be in a parking lot, instead at home.

sure gonna miss him, who will i fall asleep on the couch with now for Nascar races

My thoughts are with you folks. Been there several times over the years. What about a mobile Vet or an emergency hospital? I can't believe a Vet/Dr would turn away an animal in need. Keep trying. Where are you located? Maybe we can help find a Vet who will do the right thing.

Very sorry to hear about Flash. It sucks for sure. I’ve done it way too many times and it doesn’t get any easier! But I’m a glutton for punishment and dive right back in with another pup every time!
My sympathies!

So sorry bud. Only parents and spouses are harder to bare. Do yourself a big favor and get another little buddy asap. Flash would' nt want want you hurting.

So sorry to hear about Flash. My thoughts are with you on this painful day. Dogs are some of the nicest people I know.

So sorry to hear about Flash.
We had to put our 12 yr old Dachshund down over a year ago from cancer, heartbreaking. Still is.
We were lucky having the Vet at the house, and having him pass in my arms.
Prayers sent your way.
Dachshunds steal your heart.....

I know how hard it is, I've only ever had to put one down and had to ask a friend to do it for me.

Can't you do this at home, when the time comes i prefer return my little angel giggles toa God in her home where she feel safe and secure, in my arms I want that the last face she saw is my face, I know a piece of my soul will die with her but if God gave her to me I should have her back in the same place where she saw the first light, giggles hate the vet and she literally start shaking, I would not make my dog suffer in the hand of a stranger, never, ask the vet if you can do this it's gonna hurt you in the soul but that's what I would do, good luck and God bless you.

Find both drugs in liquid form and put them in a syringe with no needle, open his mouth and squirt it down the side. Hold his mouth closed so he will swallow and then lie down with him. It takes a while for drugs to be absorbed through the stomach and he will be asleep when he passes.

I don't know what to say and I always have something to say. I know how you feel and right now I'm looking at my 16 year old blind dog with tears in my eyes. Prayers sent!!

Been there, done that . . . Hardest thing I had to do but my 16 1/2 year old yellow lab was not doing well.

Now I've got an almost 11 year old great dane - life expectancy 6-8 years - so I'll have to make that decision again someday (hope not too soon)

Hang tough - do what's best for your little buddy . . .

Best answer.

  1. Make your dog as comfortable as possible.
  2. Give your dog 3-4 times the standard amount of a recommended dosage. For example, if your dog is 25 pounds, a normal dosage would be 25 mg. For euthanasia purposes, you would need to give them at least 75 mg.
  3. The overdose of Benadryl will cause your dog to go into a coma and not wake up.
We do recommend that you work with your veterinarian to at least get the dosage right so you don’t take the chance that you cause your dog damage without actually effectively putting them to sleep.
