Are A body and B body lower control arms the same? I need a set for my 66 Belvedere and have two sets for an A body. Laying them side by side they visually look the same. Anybody know for sure?
Nope, they are different. What the difference is, I don't know for sure but something along the lines of length comes to mind. Somebody will chime in and know more than I do.
Just did an internet search and found out the a body lower arms are longer, shock mount in a different location, and the pivot mount is also in a different location. I found this on fabo, so check it out as I just skimmed over the highlights of what was said.
They are quite different.
The A body arm is flat across the bottom while the B arm is curved. This puts the lower ball joint in a higher position in the B arm.
As stated, the shock mount, sway bar mount and strut rod hole are all in slightly different positions.
The A body arm is longer by 1/2 inch from end to end.
The B body arm uses a different pivot shaft with a "stepped" diameter. The hole in a B body K member is sized to a B body pivot shaft. An A body arm would be a wobbly, loose fit.
I have several B body lower control arms here I'd sell for $50 per pair. If you want a pair with the sway bar tabs for a 62-69 car, I'd sell them for $100 including the sway bar.
Thanks everyone. I was thinking I could get out of taking them off my parts car, since it still has the 273 & 904 still in it, that I need to find a permanent home for. Thanks again for the info.
