I bought my 60 gal at Menards over the summer and it was only $549 minus their 10% mail in rebate.

The other one (Home Depot) was also 11.5 CFM. The ad said it was better than the ones that deliver only 7.9 CFM.
I have a 60 gal compressor I bought maybe 25 years ago and the pump finally died about 5-6 years ago. I just bought a new bigger pump to replace it and it is really noisy. This pump is V twin and rated around 13.5 cfm so it works good and I think I only paid around $200. Made my compressor like new again for a lot less money.

Only one name in Air compressors ----My 5 hp 242 24cfm is still like in was in 1979 and yes i use to have a interest in them

I personally hate the noise. It does seem though a lot of the noise often is surprisingly simply intake air which is not hard to add muffling to, if it is a concern.
I recently moved an IR 7.5Hp 3 phase compressor from my shop to my home and because of space and noise its outside on side street side. Even though its fairly quiet as compressors go for its size, it seems on this one a lot of the low frequency comes from the intake, I was toying with the idea of adding a long 2" straight thru cheap glass pack straight thru auto muffler vertically pre intake filter to see if it would calm that down, reason being low frequencies travel farthest and penetrate more than high frequencies, even though when up close the higher frequencies are the most notable.

I would buy the Sears model just on principles. Of all the things I have purchased in my adult lifetime, Sears has been my favorite & the top of the pole for almost everything. They also still have many parts for stuff made over 30 years ago. Lawn tractors, Tools, Compressors, household items like refrigerators (My beer Dispenser) Stoves, washing machines, dryers, clothes, curtains, towels, Microwaves, on & on. I think they got a bum rap somehow, but a lifetime of stuff that I still use today and unless you pay more money, you have a hard time beating their stuff. I remember seeing old catalogs where you could custom order a house to be built to your needs. I have gotten 29 years out of my 1st riding tractor. I still have a 38-year-old 220v Sears 20-gallon compressor & 2 well used garden tractors! I know they sold off Craftsman & Kenmore, (I believe), however, they still have free ratchet repair, replacement, at least the last I checked. By the way, gents; Sears used to be called "The Men's Store"! It's the only place I ever saw a men's 3/4 sleeve shorter summer bathrobe! I still have one from 40 years ago!
When you make a living with your tools as a mechanic the Sears truck doesn't show up at your job to sell you new tools or replace broken ones. And you could buy tools on time (when I started in the 70s) from the Mac or Snap-on dealer without filling out any paperwork. Craftsman has their place for homeowners and weekend mechanics pretty much. Same with that compressor.

I did the math on my glasspack muffler air compressor idea, 2" x30 muffler x 4" dia @ 10cfm would replace its air approx 3 x sec, a 3" muffler x 5" dia would replace its air 1.3 x sec. think I will try 3" to reduce any inlet restrictions.

Today Craftsman warranty on old tools is useless. Nobody takes the broken sockets back, they give you an 800 number and still no help. I was definitely a craftsman tool guy, but no longer.

Nothing, including companies lasts forever, and IMO, it was good while it lasted, as also I'm a true Craftsman guy, whose Dad worked at Sears during holidays in the early 50's.

That is just sad! I haven't broken any of those in a long time. It must have been over 20 years. Sears will never be what they once were; if they survive at all. My statement also applies to "what's left" of other (American) companies as well. These days, even if it's made here it is usually made of imported low grade crap. I think the memory chip in my head is flawed as well as I am too sentimental & grateful for having been privileged enough to be raised here in the Greatest country in the world. It really hurts to see what is going on this planet these days. I feel sorry for our next generations. It's a fairly bleak future. What's that old saying?? I took some 1/4 drive sockets from my dad's tools I had been holding on to for years to Lowes this spring and traded them for new ones. Lady at the service counter said just go get the replacements and bring them back to her and she swapped them out no issues.

Agreed, Lowes honors craftsman warranty just like Sears used to no questions asked

There's no Lowes here in Canada, after they lost a few billion they sold out and are gone.
