The Charger I bought this summer has grommets for a luggage rack. I'd like to know what they looked like. I tried Googling but the pics were too far away. this is a 1969. My 1971 is interesting because it has cut out holes for the wing on the underside of the trunk. The later ones I've seen didn't have that.

Throw a couple oven racks the decklid of your car, take a picture & post it here, then let us tell you how it looks.

I have a 71 SE that originally had the luggage rack and the prior owner did not do a real good job on covering where the rack holes where. The paint is even poping on one of the old holes at the moment... I do not think the Challenger rack is the same as its front legs kick out to the side where the Charger goes straight down. I have not seen where you can get reproductions for the Charger for this year and NOS $$$ is nutzz. Here is a link to EBAY and a top and bottom of the trunk lay out.

I am thinking of going the wing route myself :icon_fU:

I think they are cool! I have owned my 68' since 1984, and have a spare trunk lid with a rack on it when I am looking for a little variety. I had one on a 70' Challenger as well, still looked cool.

It makes me think my rack was not original. I think i have 4 holes not 6. It looks like there are two supporting bars on the interior bars toward the back. Don't know, I'll have to look at it further. I'm on an oil well in Kansas right now. I was at a store in WaKeeny, Kansas today. The little kids in front of me at the cash register were about 4 and 6 years old, both wearing cowboy boots. True to cowboy fashion the 6 year old had a leather sheath on his belt holding a pair of pliers. It's a cowboy thing.

I can't imagine ever using a luggage rack. First you pile a bunch of stuff on the trunk lid so it's hard to open to get at the other luggage inside. Then you block your vision out the rear window. No point in stopping for a coffee enroute unless you're got a window seat to keep an eye on your stuff before it gets stolen, and when you do get to your destination you have to shake out a highway full of dust from your clothes.

Nope, just can't see it for myself.
