I'm thinking about putting a Lunati cam in my 6 pack RR. It has 255/263 intake/ex duration @ .050". Perf RPM heads, 10.5 to 1 C/Ratio, 4.11 gears, 3000 stall converter. Would this work ok? Or is it too much cam?
It has a flat tappet mechanical cam. Idles pretty good, and has .525" lift ex, .533 intake. I know that sounds backwards, but I checked 4 valves with the dial indicator. The intakes all have more lift than the ex valves. They were all from .522 to .533. Don't know the duration.
It now looks like this cam has too much duration, RPM range etc for my use. It's easy to go overboard on a cam. If the performer RPM heads flow say 290 CFM on the intake @ .500" lift, then at what RPM is the 440 engine going to be needing more CFM than the heads can flow? Or what would be the target RPM for maximum torque with these heads? Then the cam can be selected with that in mind. I can always get a recommendation from a cam manufacturer, but this is fun to talk about.
