I have a set of Magnum 500 wheels that have not been used. They are approximately 4-5 years old. I finally got some redline tires that balanced very good. I've had them mounted. I have a set of OER reproduction center caps that I was going to put on. The problem is that the retainers will not seat properly in the wheel. I tried these retainers on an older wheel and they just fall into place with no issues. My question is do I try and grind down these retainers or do I just find longer screws and attach them that way? I don't want to break the chrome on the wheels to make the retainers fit, and I don't really like the idea of weakening the retainers. I've tried freezing the retainers and putting them in cold, but that didn't work. The problem is with the wheels, but I'm afraid I'm stuck with them.

Pretty sure you're saying that the id on the center hole is too small.
I have a pair of ford wheels and that I'd was way small like an 1/8".
I took a die grinder and opened up the wheels.
It took a while.

I had to do the same to my 15" Ferd wheels.

Makes me wonder if the Ford center caps will fit.

I liked these good enough to install on my GTX.

Figured it out guys. I took my die grinder and put a 1/8" cutting wheel on it. I sliced each retainer 1/2 way between each tab down to the portion that was to wide. This creates enough room to tap the retainers all the way down until they seat. Then the center caps fit right on. I didn't have to break the chrome on these new magnums.
