Making new fender tag

I want a repro tag but the text to say "some dick stole the tag that belongs here"

Doesn't he put something intentionally wrong with his 'reproduction' tags so thry are basically worthless?

They usually put the last two digits of the year in the top right corner from the bottom up where the inspector number would have been stamped from the top down originally on a "custom tag." I think that they would do an "accurate" reproduction in you had the remnants of an original tag that wasn't in good enough condition for a restoration or possibly if you have a build sheet available. They won't just let you send in whatever random stuff you want to "make up" a car without putting the stamping that makes it obviously not look original.

If you search hard enough on ebay there are people selling repop fender and vin tags, just the thing to clean up the special constructed bonded title on the GTX convertible you bought this morning. Run the numbers through Vermont to wash the title and get it ready for Mecum...

Vermont doesn’t do that anymore. Too many “grey market” modern cars from nefarious individuals got it shut down.

When did they stop? I did one a year or two ago. I had the title, it had just been incorrectly assigned and it required a notarized signature from a dead guy to “fix” it. Was much simpler to register it in Vermont.

A little over a year ago.

A bunch of YTer’s posted vids on the process, including Uncle Tony. I guess too many were doing it so they stopped. I bet they lost a lot of revenue because of it.

Ohio got wise to it quickly. I went to get an Ohio title and they said since the vermont title had my ohio address on it, it was not valid for transfer. I had to go through a long process to get it done and sold it a year later. Ohio sucks on so many levels, mostly due to our highway patrol influencing policy.

I bet Pa. is worse. They want you to bring the car to a state trooper in Harrisburg… over 111 miles from me. And they will do a thorough inspection to determine if you get a title. I have a ‘68 Satellite that hasn’t run in almost 40 years and no way am I sinking money into it only to have some cop deem it not worthy of a title. I gotta move.
