I added a pressure relief valve, a 2nd return spring and figured out my throttle cable.

I was worried about drilling holes into the top of the manifold. I had to use bigger mounting bolts because I didn't have a small enough tap so that was a concern. I had to buy some allen head 1/4 bolts because they had a small head on them and the mounting plate had a lip on it that needed a small head bolt to clear. In the end it turned out nice and it wasn't that hard.

I also added a 2nd return spring. I had to fab a bracket. It is nothing special. I had a piece of aluminum that came as a brace in my electric fan mounting kit. I kind of polished it up a little. It is aluminum so it is light weight. :bootyshake:

I am also in the process of replacing some of the old wires. When I got the car in 99' I thought it would look cool if all the wires under the hood were blue. I don't know what I was thinking. The only thing I can come up with is; I was new to working on cars and didn't know any better. I got my manual out and I am trying to put the right colors back on. I upgraded the gauge of the wires from what the manual says, such as if it says 18ga I used 14ga. Nothing serious but thought it would help. I also noted it in my manual. Once this is done I will move to under the dash. That amp meter and Ballist resistor has to go and the wiring is a mess. I added aftermarket gauges. When I recently looked under there I almost threw up; again my early years of not knowing any better. Oh well how else do people learn.

I had some extra Lokar throttle cable parts laying around so came up with this. I had to put notches in them so the nut held it tight. I have the Indy throttle bracket for the 440-25 and it barelly fits with the Lokar cable. It rubs on the firewall. I may have to put something on the housing to keep it from taking off the paint. I am sure I have something laying around.

Huge mistake with the LOKAR THROTTLE CABLE!
Get yourself a stock throttle cable and toss that one out.

Pressure relief valve: Insurance in case of backfire. Some disagree with this upgrade but I am not that lucky. I have had a few backfires in my life time.

Lokar cable: Why is it a mistake? Is it the way I have it set up OR is it the Lokar product itself? My funds aren't unlimited so sometimes I have to use what I have lying around. I have used their throttle cables for years with no issues. I used it on my other dragcar, my other 440 with eddy dual quad intake and the other intake(Indy 440-2) before this one. I am open for advise and where can I get a stock one.

Pulling open 2 carbs and 2 return springs will cause the lokar cable to stretch and then slip. Get yourself a 62-65 stock throttle cable and replace it. I never would use one of those POS cables again.I made up a throttle bracket years ago on my 65 dodge.

The springs have alot of slack in them. They add just enough pressure to close the butterflies. I will keep an eye on it and the first sign of slop I will replace it for sure.

Thanks for the advise

SSR: I was going over the pic of your engine compartment. I have a few questions for you.
1: What MSD distributor are you using? It seems to sit high or is that a 400 block?

2: I have 1 spring per carb. Would this be considered as 2 return springs or do I need both springs on 1 carb.

3: On the drivers side valve cover you have a hose coming out of the rear. What is this for?

4: I know I have asked you and others a thousand times but I want to make sure before I order my rims/slicks. Did you say on your 63' you are running 15x10 w/6.5 backspacing. Your 63 has the springs moved in board and stock wheelwells? I will try and find the other post that you answered this question.

What is this for? are you talking the long clear ribbed hose, if so thats for my star vacuum pump.4: I know I have asked you and others a thousand times but I want to make sure before I order my rims/slicks. yes, 6.5 bs on stock wheel wells.15 x 10, no bigger than 29x10.5w
or 29.5x10.5 non w, which is tight up top.

Thanks for the reply's
The hose I am talking about is the real small one. looks like it goes into the firewall so I am guessing that it goes inside the car.

So I am guessing by what you are saying is that the Hoosier 29x10.5W is the slick to go with? (29.3x11) diameter X tread. I was also looking at the Phoenix 29.5x10.5(non W)
(30.2x10.8) do you think there is enough room for the Phoenix. I was going with them because they were a little taller. I was looking to drop my RPM's 300-400 from the 28's. I was spinning off the line for the first 60ft or so and was crossing at 7200-7400. I would like to stay at or under 7000RPM. My cam card says 7100 is the max power range. If I get the car to hook will that drop my RPM afew hundred; Then go with the 29" Hoosier and drop it a few hundred more putting me in my desired RPM range(6700-7000). What do you think? Sorry for they long A$$ question.

Small clear line in back of the drivers valve cover is for my vacuum gauge. I also run a altronics Vacuum sensor to see crankcase vacuum at WOT.

Go with 29 x 10.5W for slicks. Hoosiers will have best 60 foot with very little burnout. Over due your burnouts and you'll get 30-40 passes on your slicks max and then your 60 foot will go away.you'll cross the finish line at 7000.
30's will rub up top and then you'll have to jack the back up, which is no good for weight transfer.

Thanks Chris, I will do that. I did hear someplace that the Hoosiers don't last as long as others. I don't do killer burn outs. I will only get to the track 7 times a year so hopefully I can get 2 yrs out of them.

Just store them inside during the winter and keep them out of direct sunlight and you should be fine.

Yeck, I didn't even notice you had Hoosiers on the 63. Are you running the 29x10.5W's on it? I would say yes since that is the size you said fit. Those are the wheels I will be running also.

During the winter I store the car on jackstands in my garage. This coming winter I will also cover them up.

Thats a old pic. now I run M/T 29.5-10.5 non W's.
Going to go back to 29's next set.

I will be ordering my rims/slicks on monday. Should have them mounted on the car by that Friday. Put those on and then the fuel line from the reg to carbs and the car is ready. Couldn't have done it without you.
