I am changing my 69 Charger from manual drum to power disc. I have got the spindles and front end parts off a 76 Volare, I also have the under dash linkage. However I can't find a stock type power Disc booster. Does anyone know if a power drum booster will work or knows where to get a stock looking power disc booster?

im in the same boat, if you find one get two, i have had no luck, bought one on ebay and guy never shipped it .. they say the power drum booster doesnt work, but there is a guy here with one on his 69 coronet and he says it works, im gonan try it , what other choice do we have

dont forget a proportioning valve.factory drum systems use a diverter block and do not corectally proportion front to rear bias on disc drum set ups.

You should get and use all of the brake components from your doner car (spindles, caliper adapters, calipers, proportion block, etc...). You should have to do what I did, and swap spindles to the opposite sides from original for caliper/shock clearance. What I mean is the original driver side is now the pass side, and vice versa for the other side. When you are done, the calipers towards the front of the car, not the rear. As far as the booster, you would be surprised what you can find at the local parts store. I was building a 440 for a customer to put into his 84 truck, and the required booster from a company online was about $250. I found the same booster for about half of that locally.

Edit: Just got off the phone with the local parts house, and I can get boosters for the 69 Charger (power disc), and the 76 Volare (power disc 3 versions). If you can't find anything locally, maybe I can help you get one thru me.

I couldnt find 69 or 70 style boost but oriellys had a 71 style its huge and i had to drill bigger holes in the firewall and the firewall bracket but otherwise it fit right in and it works great . The car stops better then ever .

I tried all the local shops O'riellys,Auto Zone,Advanced and NAPA they all said they could get a power booster for a 69 Charger with disc until I tried to order it. They all had the same reason no cores. I thought about taken the booster and proportion block off the Volare but I did not know how well it would fit.It is still on the car at the yard I got the other parts form maybe I will go back and get them. Not sure if the larger 71 booster will fit with the late model Hemi.

heres mine,

i upgraded to all 4 wilwood discs though, bolted straight on to firewall and pedal, i got it from magnumforce, com i think summitracing and mancini have similiar ones that bolt on also.

my car has a 440 x6 motor and it fit

What master cylinder and metering valve did you use with the 71 booster.

How's the pedal feel on that setup? I was curious about the Wilwood MC, but wasn't sure if there were any drawbacks. I'm running MP Brakes 8" dual booster with MP pedal linkage and their adjustable push rod, Wilwood Forged dynalite front calipers with stock rear drum, Raybestos blue box (mid-level) MC with 1" bore, Magnumforce drop spindles, AR engineering caliper adapters, and 11.75" front disc. The car stops fine, but the pedal feel is a bit low and not that great.

A local mopar guy told me the aftermarket MC bores don't work well to give good pedal feel because the MC's are shorter in height. He says he ordered a MC bore modification kit through summit to correct this and now has great pedal feel with his disc brake setup. He hopped into my car and confirmed that he thinks my pedal is too low due to my aftermarket MC bore and pushrod adjustment needed to make my current setup work at all.

Sounds like he may be onto something because my car originally had from the previous owner a single piston disc setup from a mid-70's E-body. It stopped great, but pulled hard left.(found out later it was only a plugged brake line). I got rid of it and wish I hadn't. The previous setup was all matched nicely and stopped great.

Anyone else heard of this MC bore mod kit?
