70 Road Runner. Dual master cylinder. Appears original, but... ?
I'm removing the master cylinder to replace it with a Wilwood system. Usually the M/C is attached directly to the fire wall by nuts threaded onto studs. But mine is mounted on a larger black plate. Both the plate & M/C show only blind plugs ( caps ?, covers? ) and they cannot be removed.( no hex heads or nuts, just smooth little mounds ) Looking inside, I see no way to reach these studs and I'm not sure if I even see nuts on the back. In 2 locations there are bolt heads. This is pretty confusing and I would appreciate some advice. Thanks, Rocket

Yes, it's Christmas. But what better gift to give yourself than something for the car ?

Merry Christmas !!

Yep, the nuts are on the inside under the dash. The smooth mounds you see are the pressed in studs. Long extension and a universal socket.

hahaha! you think it was gonna be that easy? you gotta crawl under the dash to get at the nuts. the plate that the m/c is attached to is a reinforcement plate. Merry Christmas!

Can I remove the M/C from the inside separate of the reinforcing plate ? Thanks.

Yes, there is on nut on the engine side of the plate that will hold it in place.

Was able to remove the 4 nuts holding the M/C in about 4-5 hours. Only one hour to loosen the nuts, but 3-4 hours to extricate myself from under the dash. Gets a bit confusing when you're upside down.
Thanks for the help, Rocket

i did mine recently and know how ya feel. some folks swear by taking out the seat first.

I think it's easier to remove the instrument cluster to get to the booster, especially to get the top nuts back on.
BTW I always remove the seat or seats when working under the dash.

I guess I was lucky because I had already removed the gauge cluster. Lucky ? I hope the Wilwood lasts longer than I will. I don't want to do this again.

69roadr: Thanks for your advice about removing the seats. 4 nuts underneath and BINGO. I took both of them out & will leave them on the floor until Spring. In fact, there's so much room inside that I'm thinking about moving my bed in there. Wild parties; disco lights; Hooters girls. Well, you get the idea. Rocket
