Max Wedge Exhaust with Frame Ties

I am planning, and buying ahead for my '63 330 Max Wedge build, and was looking for advice on the exhaust system. I was planning on using a TTI, 3" Factory Style with the cut outs. I was also planning to use US Car Tool, weld in frame ties. By all indications, it looks like there will definitely be a fitment problem with the two. My question is has any one modified the TTI system successfully, without really butchering it up, when using a set of frame ties, or can anyone recommend another system, or ? Advice, and/or any pics appreciated...Thanks

Where did you get that driveshaft from?

I just saw a post with the dumps were sleeved through the frame connectors. I'll try to find it.

The US Car Tool frame connectors are nice, but expensive when compared to a couple pieces of .120 wall rectangular tubing. They slide into the rear frame rails and are but welded to the trans crossmember.

They're also recessed into the rear seat foot well.

The finished product looks very much factory and stiffens the unibody like you wouldn't believe.

I'm not sure but I don't believe the US Car Tool connectors are .120 thick. Notching these to clear the exhaust cutouts would be a pretty easy task.

Ultimately its you're choice, but the rectangular tubing will save you about $150.

Have them in my son's 62 Savoy they will hit big time at the cutouts need to either notch the frame connectors or run standard duals.

I thought it would be an issue. I am still interested in anyone that may have modified their exhaust to clear the frame ties. Any pics would be great...Thanks to all responding

Mine is side exit because the car is a back half with rectangular from doors back. Can take some pics if you want.

I did the same as centerline, and built my own 3.5" exhaust system.

I would rather notch the frame-ties than modify the TTI works of art! Lowering the cut-outs will rob your ground clearance too.

Centreline makes a great point in making your own frame ties - saves you money but will take longer.

I am having US Tool make a set to fit with my max wedge exhaust on my 1965 Belvedere II. Call them, they are great to work with. My connectors will be bolt on , since my interior is already setup.

I have spoken to them at Carlisle before, and they ARE one of the most helpful, quality conscious suppliers I've dealt with. I never realized they would work with, or "customize" one of their products. I will contact them next week, as this may put one more aspect of the planning to bed ! I was thinking of using the Max Wedge TTI system on my 63 Sport Fury as since I race my car sometimes I could just pop the cutouts open. But wanted to run headers and it would not work as easy with headers. So I bought the mandrel bent TTI full 3" exh system with the X-pipe to fit my 63 and use Dyno-Max Ultra-Flow mufflers as they flow very good and I just leave it capped up and race through the full exh as I believe it flows pretty good. And it fits between the frame connectors with no problems. Here is a pic as I know its not the best pic but its all I have. Ron

Ron, Thanks for that feedback. I am set on using the Cast Exhaust Manifolds, but was wondering about tying them to a TTI 3" without the cut-outs. That may be an option, and I may be able to add-in a pair of dumps for effect, that would fit between the ties. Looking at your performance data, I'd be more than happy with that...Thanks again

ON you driveshaft question, Many driveline shops will build a new shaft and do a slip joint replacing the ball and trunnion for the flange type tranny.What is used is a slip joint from a 4 wheel drive front shaft. I have had several made for different early "B" projects.
