thought I would share an article I found on the max wedge intake compared to modern intakes on flow...seems that if your heads flow more than 280 cfm,its being wasted,,

""With the MW cross ram it was basically just a 600 hp motor but with a Super Victor intake and a solid roller it made 800 hp. The cam was fairly mild too so I'm sure there was more in it. The cam was only .400 lobe lift and 266 @ 050 duration.""andy f..

interesting stuff..

I agree, that is interesting. Article is dated December 4, 2006. Anyone have the follow-up article to the actual dyno testing?

Dang, if only I had a single carb intake

The quickest cross ram door car (close to 3400lbs) I've seen is about 9.80. For sure there are better intakes. I mean face it. That intake was designed in 1961. That being said its a pretty decent piece on a 500-650hp motor. I back to backed a stock cross ram and a Indy
440-25 on the dyno on the same day. 498, .670 roller 12.5-1, 2 eddy 750's, Indy -1 heads valve job only. 658hp@5750 crossram, 701hp@6750 Indy. From 4000 rpm up the Indy was better. A good increase for sure. But certainly not 200hp.

they were not talking about going from crossram to c/r for peak power...they were talking about going from crossram to super victor max wedge single plane intake per [/QUOTE]
There's more than a few big single 4 Dominator combos that my 440-25 / 2 750 Eddys will run with. I doubt they're worth even 35 hp more. I know of a Best Racing engines 572 that made over 950 hp. The car is 350lbs lighter than mine. Best to best it's been .15 quicker. Also know of a tunnel ram /holley equipped 572, .07 slower best to best. Both motors have same heads (ported -1) similar cam and compression.

dvw, just a question on my part, did it take a lot of effort to get the cross ram/carbs to best power? IIRC that seemed to a big thing. The cross ram manifolds sure have volume & 2 carbs will have airflow. Again just an ignorant person with 0 experience with the cross ram stuff.

Nope ran well right off the bat. Very little overall tuning except making it leave better.

Thanks, most everything needs a little tuning, always presumed the cross ram style were pretty complicated. Great job.
