It was pointed out wasn't exact repo, why not beats me. Ebay ad to $1700 pan. With some fabrication you could make Vans look close.

when i talked to vans he told me someone loaned them a real one i know greg lane was in on it and kramer looked it before they went into production

the real one was deepened at one time and restored i would compare the vans one to a untouched one not to put down the real one just my 2cents
Peter Suozzi and Greg Lane are the two people who made this project possible. I had several people who had spoke to me about getting this pan done. I never had the opportunity for anyone who would be willing to loan me one to have it done.
I reached out to Greg on attempting to locate a pan that would be good enough to work off of. Most people who have one of these pans are not willing to give one up in fear that its get lost or damaged beyond repair. Greg suggested that I reach out to Peter as he had two pans that would be good to work from.
From dealing with Peter on other parts, he was willing to lease me the pan for a considerable amount of money as a retainer as these pans do not come up for sale. I have sent parts overseas and locally to have reproduced and you do not always get back what you send them. So needless to say, Peter agreed to assist in the cause.
Working with a importer who works with Van's, the pan was put into production. I have posted several pictures of Peter's pan and the reproduction pan. I would have to say on a scale of 1 to 10, it is around a strong 8.75. The largest area of concern for the purist is the area around the oil drain plug, it should be more of crescent shape instead of squared off. The other area is stretch marks along the side of the pan.
For fit and function and all but the ultimate correct restoration, the pan is a very nice and needed product for anyone doing a Max Wedge car or putting a big block into a 62 to 65 B-Body.
The pans are in transit now and should be here by May 8th. I have been quite on the release, knowing that the product is not quite here for release. But after numerous phone calls and emails, I just wanted to let the guys here know that the product will be soon available.
If any questions, feel free to drop me a message. Hope that the attached pictures will cover any concerns that you may have.

The pans were produced by a company overseas. I have provided information in post number 68 on the background for the pan. We shipped out 14 of them on Monday, so the initial demand has been good, but like anything, the first 25% goes pretty quickly, the next 25% will do ok and the final 50% can take some time to eventually move all of the production run if you ever do.
For the purist, they will always want the original pieces. But for the vast majority of the market, they will be satisfied with the piece.
In regards to the pricing, people have questioned the pricing on the pan. If you should compare the rarity and difficulty in locating an excellent Max Wedge pan to say a 66 to 69 Hemi oil pan, the Max Wedge pan is much more difficult to source. Production wise, the 66 to 69 Hemi pan was produced in greater quantities as compared to the number of Max Wedge pans.
Prior to the reproduction 66 to 69 Hemi pan, they were bringing $800 to $1200 per pan for a good one. The reproductions are available now for right at $250 depending upon the vendor. An original Max Wedge pan prior to the reproduction was bringing generally $1200 to $2000 for an excellent used pan. So the $300 mark I feel is not out of line for the pan.
I have spoke to some owners who have these cars and we all feel that there is a small number of highly accurate restorations or original cars who will want to have an original pan on their car. But for 95% of the market, they are more than satisfied with the pan.
Hopefully this will give you guys some more insight into the pan.

I checked this Thursday for the availability of the Mopar Performance P5249817 oil pickup and there is none to be had at this time. There was none in the regional depots and nothing at the national depot. I think that there was 300 plus submitted request for the part, yet nothing shows to be in transit or open purchase orders from Chrysler.
With that said, there is no real time table on when this pickup will be available. I have seen similar scenarios as this and it may be months or a year or more before the item may be filled. And then it may be completely dropped. So if you find some, better snatch it up. Summit shows availability in mid February, but I would not hold my breath.
As for as the 817 pickup working, I was of the understanding that it should work. I was sent a link by one of the Max Wedge experts that Van's has reproduced the pickup in a 3/8" variety. His concern was that the tube was of the wrong profile and would have issues. I have just been too busy to see if they have any follow up on the situation. I will attempt to get an answer by the end of next week to see if he has any updates.
