I have the opportunity to get a real 426 max wedge HC short block,it's on a std bore with knurled pistons also rods& crank . No oilpan or cam.

Can I have some estimates what it's worth $$$$ before I make an offer
Thanks in Advance

$500.00 - $1000.00 pops into my mind for some reason. If it's a real MW block by casting numebr and stamp pad info with date code, etc.. then it has to be one rare beast. It should also have machined in bore notches to clear the 1.88" exhaust valves. I could be way out of line but I don't see those around at all.

Lets see some pics of the ID stamp and side of the block please? The HC stands for High Compression btw.

This isn't my first rodeo....I already have a genuine MW stage I engine LC (complete)
So I know this is a real short block as it has all the correct markings ,ID pad(426TMPHC) 4-11-01 ,cast date ,cast no.
What I'm after is what I should offer ????
my guess $3-4k ...too high?

Sounds like you answered your own question.

I know a guy out here in CA that was trying to get upwards $10K for a complete motor and no one was jumping on it. Seems hemi's are easier to peg a value on but you never see MW for sale. Like it says above I think you know the answer.

Thanks for the answers.
The guy selling it has no idea as to what he wanted for it...I don't want to low ball him as times are hard over there at the moment.

Good luck mate. I would think there really is no "market rate" for this kind of thing. Value depends greatly on how (in)complete it is. It's rare stuff for sure, but only really worth a high value to the collector/numbers crowd. It's up to you and him to find the price where you're both happy. If he says $500 would make him happy, who are you to deny his happiness?:icon_lol:

Did you get it? I'm not interested in what you paid, but would like to see pics of MW ****...

I brought it and organising shipping, here's the pics

The way I read this is the date of manufacture is

5 for May- 16 for the day- 08 for the eighth engine built that day.

426 is the cubic inch

T is for 1963

M is for Mound Road assembly plant

P is for Premium fuel recommended

Now the block that you are buying was casted on 10-12-62 and assembled on 2-2 in 1963.

T for 1963

M for Mound road assembly plant. (Or these M's could be an upside down W for water tested.

P for premium fuel recommend

HC high compression.

Most specs on these stampings will say that they didn't use three numbers for the cubic inches until 1965. They would use 38 for 383, 41 for 413, 42 for 426. You can see that's not the case at all by these two examples...
