I always thought the MP stood for Maximum Performance, as that was the name of the engine. The Maximum performance wedge head engine - or Max Wedge.

I might be over-deciphering the M.P. mainly because I cannot find any documents listing a MP for these years. HP for high performance and. P for premium fuel but not a MP for max. performance. I would think MP would definitely stand for just that, Max Performance.
