Measuring for shocks

I need to order coil over shocks for my triangulated 4 link, am I correct in thinking that I should let the suspension hang then measure the distance between the upper and lower mounting points and then add a couple inches? It is an RMS 4 link where the shocks sit in front of the axle and diagonally. Thanks

Hello. Measuring collapsed or jounce length is just as important as the extended length. You have the right idea. I would collapse the suspension and measure between the mounting points then do the same when the suspension is hanging or extended. One more point, where will the suspension jounce stops be? Are they on the coil-over shock assemblies?

So measure at full extension, full collapse and by Jounce stops do you mean like bump stops? Sorry not familiar with the term.
There are no bump stops on the triangulated 4 link I installed, that in aware of at least...

Jounce stops are the same as bump stops. The bump stop might be on the shock absorber piston rod. Regardless, the shock will control travel of the suspension when hanging and it may also control travel of the suspension when collapsed. It is important to make you have correct shock travel so you do not overtravel the suspension hardware. Does the company selling the system to you have a tech line? Usually they can give you specific instructions based on the suspension and dampers you are planning to install.

I did speak with the manufacturer which I will add sent me the wrong shock/spring set in the first place and will not own up to it so I’m on the hook for $500 for a new set. Anyway he did point me in the right direction but I want to make my own measurements and make sure. So I will measure full collapse and full hang and pick out a shock that matches up with my measurements + a couple inches?
