Eccentric on backwards?

It can not go on the other way. It fits flat against the gear and is indexed on the same key way as the cam. There is a picture a few posts up.

From the photos it does look like the eccentric is on backwards.
Pnora, it can still go on the other way, it just not indexed. The bolt used to mount it will be longer as well.

Timing cover should come off to see what's going on in there.

Pull the timing cover off. That will tell the story. I see no cam in there.

Yep, you shouldn't be able to see the cam bolt.

In the past an electric fuel pump was noisy . I listened to that drone on our car for a 3500 mile return trip to car shows. It was on the car when we bought it. Came home and put it in a box, what a relief!

Great question. My main motive was cleanliness of the engine / engine compartment.
Mechanical is far more reliable for sure. But if I decide to go to injection I have the pump to handle it. Figured better to have the pressure and not need it than to need it and not have it.
If the electric one fails, I need to pull the tank. PITA. But at 1000 miles max on this car a year, I think I will outlive it. My son's problem after that.
