YY1....i dont have children...... do you want my cars when i go ? none of my neices or nephews could give a damn about my cars. heres the response i get when they find out i bought another car................."....UNCLE DAVE, WHY DO YOU HAVE THESE CARS?....WHY DONT YOU SELL THEM AND BUY A NEW ONE ! " i just roll my eyes at them like a snotty little teenager and blurt out " you just dont get it doya ?"

Hell YES!

My brother in-law's daughter is actually the most interested "young-un" we have in the familly. Not old enough to drive, yet, and a country girl, but talks frequently about wanting a hot rod and remembers old cars and trucks her dad has gotten rid of (he goes through cars quite a bit).

99SS...where i come from..PCP is angel dust....can ya maybe type out what youre trying to say....perhaps ????

ooooooooooooooooooooh....you must be one of them "young-uns" with your face buried in a cell phone constantly talking in acronyms...we "old folks" still use this thing called the English language.lol omg bff ttyl !

anyway...i swore to myself ...NO MORE CARS.....but id love to have a 71

LMAO! No its easier than typing it all out for me .... I have a trac phone for emergency use only and dont know how to text.... and only abbreviate a few things. It just seemed like a no brainer in the mopar world ... pcp has to be plum crazy purple... what else can it be? angel dust..hahahahaha where is your mind at.
I think I am older than you at 48?

Velocity, not speed channel, thanks for the correction.

I, too, was dissappointed to see how many cars didn't sell.
I also am a believer that Mecum is a better gauge of the market than Barret-Jackson..that's why I thought it relevent to post the question.
Barrett-Jackson is all HYPE. I wouldn't be surprised if some of those "sales" are all just for show.

Anyhow, there have been many good points raised, and I agree :
that the younger generation isn't into the street rods, muscle cars of the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
restomods are popular right now,
I didn't buy my car as a retirement funder....

I'll take the muscle car over the civic any day of the week

I agree restomods are popular. At least there is still interest in our hobby with all these "green crazies" out there, they would outlaw anything that has 4 wheels and burns fossil fuel. I am fortunate my kids have some interest in my cars. They want to learn to drive them and told me not to sell them, they want them someday. Hopefully that will happen.

This is just my opinion, and I mostly agree with Topdwdog, I just don't think that the market for our cars is ever going to be like it was 5-10 years ago any time soon. But that's not all bad. It makes our hobby more affordable for entry level enthusiasts. I personally didn't buy any of my cars because I thought they were a great investment. I bought them because I like them and they are fun to work on and drive. I saw some of what I thought were pretty decent deals at Mecum. If you can get into a nice classic driver for 15-20K, why not do it.

wowow seeing double now !

really ??... you old bastard you..hahahahahaha

heres my theory should you care to listen :

back when our cars were made..(60's and 70's )...were were just little tikes, grabbing our fathers hand only to be whisked off to the local car dealership to shop for a car with dear 'ol dad. since that time, this excursion has been in our minds,,,,weather subliminally ,,,or deliberate.

as time went on, our love for these machines grew and grew to the point of...." I WANT ONE" ...so we got one...or 2...or 10. now in our teens, the nostalgia of a 15 or 20 year old car has its own shimmer and gleam. we loved these cars and as life would have it....things get in the way....marriage...family....prison....what have you....and we must part with our shiny pieces of gold.

now that we are older...(in our 50's...or quickly approaching them )...we fondly look back at the days of our youth....shiny fast car under our asses, hott babe sitting next to us....good "like minded" friends that would choose a gathering point and meet for good times.....and we miss those days........so we buy ANOTHER car just like what we once had. i refer this as "mid-life-crisis, and make an attempt to feel like we did when we were young.

so now we have all of these cars....however sparse....and think to ourselves..." i think when i die , i will give my prized posession to my children, so they too can know the thrill of owning such a machine " unbeknownst to us....our children HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST.....and take our prized posession to an auction house....or a used car lot...or put it on craigslist or EBAGG or the like .

the point im trying to make here is....our cars...no matter how important to us they are, are not necessarily important to the "next generation" of gearheads....and the latest generation really dont know what the hell these cars are or what they represent. face it guys, we the last of a certain breed of people that live, eat, sleep cars!

and thats my theory as to why these cars dont sell like "we" think they should. ask any 19 year old today what a ROAD RUNNER is....or a SUPER BEE....they have no idea. they will tell you about the new VW- GLS....or some other rice burning roller skate, and how " this chip can do this"...or " another chip can do that". our time is a time long gone by and kept alive by us, and when we are gone, so will our beloved pieces of gold!

Great post and dont take me wrong. For the most part about kids these day, you are correct. I traded a Harley Davidson for a 70 Sat project for my son who is now 19 but 18 when I got it for him. He helped me when building my 68 Coronet, and my 69rr. After that he lost interest. So needless to say it drove me nuts, i don't understand why he wouldn't help me work on it or anything else. My youngest son is now 16 and is around most of the time when I have worked on all my Mopars. He goes to the Mopar Nats, all car shows, craigslist road trips, swap meets and the trips to Jegs or Summit Racing with me. He helps me with issues at hand on our beloved cars. So I ended up talking to my oldest son, said he didnt want the 70 sat. I gave it to my youngest and he is all over it. He wears Mopar shirts and hoodies to school. Talks cars with the best of them and usually knows what the heck he is talking about. Its great for me to listen to him about ideas of what he wants to do the car. The color, the wheels, tires, rear end gear, ect.... So he is an exception to our children these days that doesnt appreciate our passion, that is now passed down to him. What can I say, A VERY VERY PROUD AND DELIGHTED DAD! I guess I'm lucky, one outta two ain't bad. Oh yeah! He has his learners permit, his first 4spd was my 69 bird. You should have seen his face after he started to get the hang of it....priceless!

im so glad he is into the cars. i dont have kids, so i can only go on what i actually see with my eyes and my sisters kids. keep him going on this. sounds like ya got a great kid there!

Most kids don't care about the cars. That is why we should drive them and wear them out. The kids will sell them to buy more hand held devices to fill their heads with $hit. It beats reality. Why hear, feel, or smell anything when you can bury you head in a screen? The WIW threads explain some of it. Who cares what it is worth. Not me.

im with ya on this. i bought my cars to drive and enjoy. i dont plan on selling them, but if i have to, theyre definitely sellable! i wish i had that video of todays generation...maybe you seen it:

2 kids on a date....and not speaking to eachother from across the table, but they are texting to converse....

I too am very lucky to have two great boys and both are car nuts just like me!! One is 17 going to be 18 next month my other is 16. They both have helped me over the years work on and restore everything from mopars to our mud trucks and they love every minute of it. I couldn't be any happier because they do know what cars are what and what they want. They both want Mopars of course the oldest wants a RR and the youngest wants a SB even the Mrs. wants one. Whats really cool is when your kid comes home from auto shop class and says he even taught the teacher something LOL. Thems my boys!!! But I too have seen and have kids in the family that could care less about cars. Pretty sad just knowing what they are missing out on.
