I’ve been volunteering at a local cemetery for the last 15 years or so putting up flags on all the veterans graves. Started taking my boys with me as well for the last few years.

As a non Vet, this day is a tough one for me. These names have family and loved ones who are certainly remembering. My friend who was lost was 18! May sound cheesy but he never got to enjoy the thrill of the awesome machines we love. And so many other things too. Counting my Blessings as I remember our Hero's.

I have lost friends who gave the ultimate sacrifice during my War...Viet Nam. Drafted in 69, I was always in doubt about my journey so I enlisted in the USAF. Never deployed, but lost some to that engagement and police action. Both are forever embedded into the Vietnam Memorial, in Washington, DC. My other service involved many other wars and engagements as I served until 2007. I flew many soldiers, sailors, airmen, Coast Guard, and Marines into harm's way and brought back the caskets of those who had given their lives. Solome repatriation flights. I often wonder if I brought them into harm's way. I will always remember regardless if one did or did not serve. It is our country's DNA...

Here is a story about what it means also...https://www.military.com/daily-news/opinions/2024/05/26/memorial-day-im-remembering-friend-who-saved-my-life-iraq.html?ESRC=eb_240527.nl

I think just like you and it's not cheesy. This was a big day for my dad, thinking of those who sacrificed their lives so we could live in this country as free people. Had it not been for all of them that fought for our freedom in Germany, God only knows what this world would look like. Never mind my family.....Thank you!!....Ulli

For me, it was the Air Force from 1973 to 1980.
For all the vets out there, from all the services, have a great day.

And let us not forget 13 of our brave service members lost during the blundered Afghanistan withdrawal! RIP You will be remembered now and in the future!

Thats a great tradition to have right there, thank you very much for taking time out of your day to do that. Havin your boys join you now is a bonus to keep the tradition alive, and have them know what Memorial Day is really about. I’m sure all the veterans up above appreciate it.
