http://www.caranddriver.com/news/mercedes-benz-metris-news---I just saw a commercial for this van and it was said it could hold 60 sheets of 4x8 sheet rock 3/8 or half i don't know. The add says 2500 pound pay load. You tell me as i say no way that van could hold 2500lbs. I have a tacoma 4x4 with air bags and id never put that much weight. The tires could not take the load. I had about 1500 in the back and the tires had a noticeable bulge. I had a 100 plus mile trip at highway speed and i knew a panic stop or sway situation could be very dangerous,so i lightened the load. I just don't believe this weight claim. Any thoughts?

I think Steve is talking about their minivan...

http://www.mbvans.com/sprinter/disc...86|pkw|+mb van|pmt|b|pag|Sprinter+General+BMM

I had 4 of the older Dodge/MB full size Sprinter vans with the 5 cyl turbo diesel engines & they were great vehicles with great fuel economy. When it was time to trade those in, I later bought 2 of the newer MB 6 Sprinters with the V6 turbo diesel. The fuel economy was just not as good and the newest one had a bunch of mechanical problems. The biggest problem with all of them was the paint; they all would rust from underneath the paint. Very surprising seeing that they all came from MB. Because of the mechanical issues with the new ones, i traded them in last year and bought 2 V6 Ecobeast Ford vans. So far so good.

I'm sure that the MB minivan is good, as they have been selling them for decades in Europe, but I'm sure that it's more expensive than a competitive Ford. Plus, you are going to get raped on service.

Well, according to those links and spec sheets, the 2500 pound payload is not only possible, it's the bottom end of the smallest van so I guess they've got tires that can take it.

I saw that too, and scratched my head...

1.25 tons... and it didn't even look like it was squatting.

2500 ÷ 60 = 41.66#. USG's site lists std. weight ⅜" drywall @ 1.4# psf which is about 44#/sheet. So, give or take it looks to be correct.

I don't/can't/ and won't see what Steve wrote, but I do know that a 4x8 sheet of 3/4" plywood weighs 71 lbs. FWIW

That would depend on the plywood. Here's what 1/2" plywood weighs:

Plywood Type: Weight per Sheet
Softwood Plywood 40.6 lbs
Hardwood Plywood 45 lbs
Marine Plywood 50 lbs
Particle Board 61 lbs
MDF 66.7 lbs
MDO 37.5 lbs
OSB 47 lbs
ApplePly 35 lbs
Baltic Birch 48 lbs
