I just stuffed an A833 od tranny in my ride, and research has shown that it takes Mercron II (or III) in the aluminum case transmissions. I just looked it up at the local Advance Auto.

What do you guys know?

Makes sense to me. I use Synthetic ATF in my Tremec T-56 in my truck.

i never liked the way they shifted with just ATF in them.
if you don't, try it with 1/3 ATF and the rest 90w gear oil

ATF was also called out for the earlier 833 but only in cold temps.

Had a 74 D100 pickup with a 3 speed that came with ATF in it. If you're going to use it in hot temps or for heavy duty use, you could look for a heavier gear oil for it. In the winter time, my light duty 3 speed was hard to shift and it doesn't get that cold in south Texas....

I was also told that atf have detergents in it, and keeps everything nice and clean! Cool.
