Michigan 63 Sport Fury convertible

Hello all, I'm the proud new owner of a restored Sport Fury ragtop. It has a poly 318 with dual Edelbrock quads, and Hurst 4-speed. Totally loving the car but there is one problem. It runs great until I step on the gas enough to open the second carb. It just doesn't do much, kindof hesitates and feels limited somehow. I know that there was a dual quad option on the 318 back in 57 or 58, so there must be a way to tune it so it runs well. Just looking for suggestions on what steps to take toward getting it tuned properly. All advice welcomed!

There's some threads on here and on the WWW explaining how to tune a pair of quads. I have two Eddies on top of my 440 and I found that having it set up as progressive, the front carb not being open all the time, had my front cylinders running a little lean. I have them both hooked up "one to one" now and all the cylinders run at the same temperature.

The Edelbrock's accelerator pumps from the factory and in the rebuild kits can be susceptible to deterioration from useing the ethanol fuels. If they are the blue color ones change them out for the orange ones. I had problems tuning them until I switched to the orange. Made all the difference with idling and acceleration.

Welcome from Indiana. Love the early Bs. What other modifications have been done to the engine. If it has the stock cam and log manifolds, that 2nd Edelbrock carburetor might not be doing much. Remember those old dual quad 318s had tiny WCFBs on them. What’s your timing set at? Good luck.

nice Fury by the way

maybe post the questions about tuning in the
General Discussion forum or another appropriate forum section
this is just the welcome wagon not really a tech Q&A section
far more viewership in them forums too

hope it has a hotter ignition & not the stock points
to aide/help burn all the extra fuel too
I'd suggest get a collection of metering rods & jets to tune the carbs
maybe a progressive linkage too

maybe tech a book or 2, a little research on line etc.
maybe old tech articles on the original 2 x4 318 set ups,
may help too
