The time has come to replace the mufflers on my 1964 Dodge 440. Just curious what mufflers my fellow B body owners have used and if your'e happy with your choice or would do it differently given the choice.
My car has a 383/4 speed powertrain. I dont want anything loud, but like to hear the thump of the motor at idle and a clean tone when accelerating thru the gears.
Im kinda leaning towards the Flowmaster 40 series, but just wondering what others have chosen....Thanks.

I just installed these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Xlerator-XS1226-Performance-Muffler-Stainless-Steel-4-x9-Offset-Center-14-Body-/231479194725?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35e53c3465&vxp=mtr
They are Magnaflow clones, but are incredibly well built for the money, $85 pair with free shipping.

I also went to 3" mandrel bend pipe off the collectors into the H-Pipe and used 3"- 2.5" reducers right after the H-Pipe and continued 2.5" pipe and turndowns at the rear axle. It's quite a bit deeper at idle but at cruise it's not super loud where you can't talk to the person next to you, and it's without the tinging and hollow sounds of chambered muffs.

It sounds a lot like this

I have Flowmaster 40 series on my 72 440 Dart, my 65 Belvedere and my 02 Chevy Pickup. Hell, I'd put them on my C300 Mercedes if I could!!!

I went with Summit street & strip mufflers. they have a nice tone and not break the bank.

here is my car with a tti set up 2.5 inch system. They use Dynomax Turbos
and yes-my backup lights are stuck on when in park-lol

Man I love this forum, great comments guys....and the videos are an added bonus lol. That is one sweet Dart! Any concern about back pressure when upsizing from stock diameter pipe to say a 2 1/2" system?

I put a set of Dynomax super turbos on my '67 Coronet. 318 with Summit headers. Love the sound. Fairly quiet at idle but when you stand on it it comes to life!

Bigger = less back pressure = better. Back pressure is the enemy...

I use 50 series flowmasters. They have a really deep rumble. But most of all, there's no drone noise in side. They are a lot quitter inside than the 40s. I used 40s in my Ram quad cab and none one in the back could hear conservations in front. I sold them and put 50s on and have been happy ever since
