Mike Nesmith won't be down for breakfast

R.I.P. Mike! One of my favorite Monkee's songs was called "Papa Gene's Blues", I think. Mike sang the lead on it and it had a kind of country twang to it if I recall. I do have their greatest hits double CD. If I remember, the song D.W. Washburn was not included, which pissed me off somewhat. Sad but no one lasts forever.

R.I.P.

I guess Mike won't be going to Rio any more..... :(

So sad that The Monkees are all but gone now.....only Mickey Dolenz left. :(

R.I.P.
That was a funny show. If you were a kid at the time.

He deserves a double post

RIP Mike, I liked your show & most of the music

I liked some of Mikes solo work after the Monkeys. Kinda obscure, but he was a pretty good guitarist, despite being chosen for the Monkeys.

That’s too bad! Rest In Peace!

RIP Mike. I always enjoyed their music although the TV show was kind of lame - something even I recognized in my youth. But the music is part of the era and I still like to hear it pop up on the radio from time to time. Reading the articles about him he was a really productive artist throughout his life and a stand-up guy. I also liked the bit about his mother being a sometime painter and sometime Secretary. She single-handily invented Liquid Paper in her kitchen in a blender and became very wealthy from it in the 70s.

RIP Mike Nesmith, who actually had musical talent. I never could understand that goofy hat, though.

Here's a tad bit more to his resume...He was an AF Veteran also. Enlisted in 1960, and became a B-52 Mechanic. Was discharged in 1962 but I haven't been able to find out why such a short enlistment. Still sad he has passed. RIP Mike...cr8crshr/Bill:praying::praying::praying::usflag::usflag::usflag:

Added: A noted passing in the SAC family: Former B-52 mechanic Mike Nesmith passed away today. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1960. He completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, and then trained as a B-52 aircraft mechanic at Sheppard Air Force Base. He was then permanently stationed at Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base, Oklahoma. He was honorably discharged in 1962.

I would think that his enlistment time of two years was not unusual; that was the minimum time before release of conscripted members. Elvis Presley served two years.
