I bought a Proform mini starter for my 383 Super Bee. It is the correct part number and it bolts up okay but the posts for the wires are right up against the block. The posts are on a plastic block which can be removed . Doing so still provides posts for the wires but it's still really close to the block. I can figure out something with a homemade extension and insulator. I just wanted to ask if anyone else had this problem and how you solved it. Maybe your solution is better than what I have in mind.

yep, this is a very common problem. install all your wires on the stsrter 1st, put on the attaching nut and slice off the extra part of the stud if it hits your block. if it doesnt touch. leave it alone.
yes it is tight,.

How much was the Proform? They are not cheap....and a stock mini works very well unless you're running a ton of compression and even then, they do decently.

I paid $127 for it. I had a discount coupon to use up so I applied it to this. I was surprised at how much the price can vary for these things. They all appear to be a variation on the Denso starter. I wasn't sure how much they really vary so I went with a 'middle of the road'. Proform didn't have the best warranty, power, or gearing advantage but a few local guys were using them and liked them (not Mopar guys, Though). I saw units that were advertised with as much as 3HP motors. They could make this a much better fit if they just redesign the wiring attachment.

Yup, the the factory starters fit the old motors pretty much the same way. I have one that's in my cabinet but can't remember the brand off hand but it's identical to the stock replacement one that's on my 95 Dakota...
