Need Pics of ways to run Mini Tubs and tail Pipes on a 66 - 67 B Body without removing the spare tire well. I'm somewhat OK with using a fuel cell but really don't want to cut out my perfect trunk pan...I will be using leaf springs moved in to normal Mini tub location.

Thanks for the help.

Thank you for posting this question I am not quite to this point on my 67 but would have been asking the same later this year so I am anxious to see what people have done

Good luck. I have seen it before. I used to just have dumps before the axle. I would think without the gas tank in the way, it'll be quite easy to accomplish.

Well, I wish I could tell you that I did that on my'67 Coronet, but I didn't. I cut out the spare well and moved the gas tank to inside the trunk, above the axle. The tail pipes will exit from the backup light holes in my '70 RR rear bumper. Gas cap is on top of the quarter like a '69 Charger. Wells are tubbed to the frame and i'm about to cut and paste the leaf spring relocation kit soon. It's sitting on the floor waiting.

I also cut the spare tire well out on my 66....

Here is mine with moved springs (no mini tubs though), fuel cell in trunk and 2 1/2" pipes.

I'm contemplating cutting the trunk center section out between the frame rails and grafting a 68-70 B body floor in there and then using a 68-70 tank and put the fill tube out the rear bumper and use a flip down plate. Some extra work, but the parts are all readily available.

OK so I've decided to cut the spare tire well out. I'm thinking to use a Ford gas tank (Yea I know) like the ones below. The Fairlane tank seems promising as it is 30 1/2" wide flange to flange. The stock spare tire well area after removing the well, should allow for this to drop in with very little addition modifications other than cutting the proper size hole. then the gas tank and spare well are taking care of at the same time and no bulky fuel cell in the trunk. The top of the Ford tank would be the finished trunk floor. Then either weld on a filler cap flange and fill from the trunk or reroute the filler tube inside the trunk.

That's an idea...never thought of that. I originally cut my spare well out because there was some rot involved, and I intended to run the exhaust out those back up light holes in the '70 RR bumper and didn't want to run them around the well first. Then several show cars came to my attention that had things about them that I really liked such as the tank over the axle sandwiched between the tubs. I still haven't welded the trunk floor in place as I'm wanting to sit on the floor and weld up the relocation kit so I don't have to lay down and do it upside down. I also considered a flat RR type pan for the trunk as it will weld right up with a bit of trimming. You have good ideas, nice to see another hot rodder making some mods too! Good luck. Ghost

The '66 Satellite I bought had used a 16 gallon fuel cell in the spare tire cavity, dual pickup's out the back. It's great. Springs are moved in. Looks great.

Ghostrider, did the cars that you saw with fuel tank over the axle use custom tanks or were they stock from another car? My 67 project has minitubs and spare tire well and I'm starting to like the idea of using a tank instead of taking up space in the trunk with a fuel cell.

I've got my 67 Belvedere Convertible mini-tubs and leaf spring relocation kit installed - it's all documented, with plenty of pictures, in my build thread . . . as for the Tail Pipes . . . I have not gotten to that point yet so I'm not quite sure what I'll be doing there . . .

But I know know that I'll be able to figure something out . . .

Here's a picture of my 67. I used a 20 fuel cell and sunk it down just below the bumper.

Here's a picture of my 67. I used a 20 fuel cell and sunk it down just below the bumper.

What I did was cut out the spare tire tub and weld a floor in close to flat. Then I cut out the floor for the fuel cell and sealed it with seam sealer. It is bolted in on all four corners plus I added a strap in the middle for more support.

Then I used a tti exhaust system for a 68-70 b body.

It now has a fuel pump in the tank because I fuel injected my car.

#DROOL!
Rapom, I hope you upload some detailed pics of your car. I and many others would like to see them.
I am planning on either running the 64' mustang tank or a cell like you did. I am going to go with the Aerotech Phantom intank pump with whatever I choose. I would love to see some pics of what you did.

They have custom tanks. There are a couple of companies that will take your drawing/measurements and build it just like you want it, or, there are ones available for that area but maybe not to fit in between tubs. Have not looked into that. I'm going to have one built for it.

On the other hand, if you plan on hiding the cell in some fashion from public view, then it makes no diff what you use as long as it fits in there ok. Get the measurements and start looking on line for a tank that will work and sling it in there man,.. be creative. Can likely locate on from a salvage yard...

Here are a few more pictures. It's in storage right now so I don't have good lighting. I took a lot of detailed pictures of tubbing and moving in the leaf springs but none of the fuel cell so here are some pictures I just took.

Sorry for posting the pictures that aren't relevant.

On the trunk floor I kept it flat instead of following the contour of the trunk. It tends to go up as it goes to the bumper.
