Hi all this is my first post...I will be reading alot on here and asking questions,,,,My dad has a 1970 GTX ,been working on it for years..he has about completed the car ,,got it on the road just a few bugs to work out..here is my mix feelings comes in ,hes 74 years old ,heathy just cant see good (cataracks), he told me to come get the car ,Happy Days ...you would think...just dont seem to happy

Do you live near to him? If so, then get the car, finish off his work, and make sure you go pick him up every time you take it out. That way you guys can enjoy it together.

Sounds like he's still sharp enough to know the car will be in better hands, or at least eyes. Go get the car, just plan, and commit, to spending time in it with your Dad. You didn't say but hopefully he is local and you can share the car with him. Good luck and enjoy to time you got with your Dad, nobodys getting any younger.

Im about 300 miles apart ...I v been thinkin along them lines....the car is road ready right now ..just needs better brakes (has drum) he has about total restored ,in side and out..we have alot of time in the car ,,over the last 10 years ...he lives in Ga im in Sc ,i went down a few months ago ,,we drove around all day , every stop someone came over to talk about the car ,folks taking pictures, I had a blast

It will make his day just to be with you in his (your) car. That would be the best you can do now.

What are you having mixed feelings about? My cars will go to my kids when I pass on and you are lucky enough to have him still alive and it sounds like good health. He is thinking of you is my take on it. There is no greater joy to a parent then seeing their kid happy. Pick up the car and go see him in it often and take him places. There will be no greater joy for him than that. If I can leave my kids a special piece of me I am going to and if we can enjoy it together while I am still on this planet then I die a happy man. You're his son. Its a moment of pride that I would/will cherish for the rest of my life when I can do something like that for my kid.

You might want to go to the newbie section and introduce yourself.

Cataracts (not Cadillacs) can be fixed. I'm not real far from 74 and don't want to hear it. My 40 year old son is not a candidate for the R/T. I will give it to my Mopar pal to enjoy or sell. Usually the "kids" don't care. If you do, thats a switch. A good one too. Take it and go for an occasional blast with Dad. Can't think of anything better. If you are not interested TELL him and sell it to someone who will drive and enjoy it. I love Mopars and family heirlooms too. This is an emotional issue. Good luck.

Welcome to FBBO, take the car, finish it & take your Father for rides & to Shows etc. let him also enjoy the car, it's a win win for both, it's really sad & too bad about his eyesight, but it's also great "you get a 70 GTX", he probably loved the car, respect his wishes & respect the car I can see where it may sadden you, but Good luck anyway... PS Maybe you could go to the Welcome Wagon forum section & formally introduce yourself, maybe give us some photos & some back ground, on cars & yourself, you will get allot of responces there also...

Sounds like you are pretty far apart, but when its done and in good shape for the trip, make a point to spend time with him, your place if its possible or his, Just to know an upcoming visit is coming will give him that to look forward to. The times when you and him are riding together and enjoying the time with each other and the car, that i think would be some great mixed feelings for each of you.

Its been a year now since I done this post, the replys here realy helped me lot, get my head together.well here is what happon in the past year, I came down back last summer for a week and we messed with the car some.,,

Good luck on the trip home. Keep us posted on what's going on.

good luck man ....my car that I got from my dad I cherish more than anything else he left me .......

GTX looks good. Needs a little work but doesn't look like anything major. Good luck on the trip home.

I hope you have a great time with Dad and a safe and uneventful ride home. If the brakes are operational there is no worries. Most came with drum brakes and were driven millions and millions of trouble free miles with them. Upgrade them later if you want be they'll get you home.

When you get home inspect everything to determine condition (post pics here for questions) / and ask Dad what he's done and with with what parts .. then make a punch list to determine what you will do and what will get or keep you on the road reliably and do a project here and there. Looks like a great car you can work on and drive vs complete project.

Good luck
