Mopar Alley Car Show, Cupertino, CA, June 10th (Saturday) at DeAnza College

Feel free. I’m looking for a phone number.

I have a phone number. I’ll pm it to you. Give it a call to check on the pictures.

I only got one. Here it is. Please ignore my ugly mug.

I do understand, Dennis.
At our show in Sacramento, we have had some snags but never to the level that they had at the last Mopar Alley show. Many of our classics do run great but do so while barely avoiding overheating.
Your idea to expedite the registration process is a good one.
The following is NOT any attempt to excuse the shitshow, just a possible explanation:
As car clubs lose members, they lose the very people that they need to do jobs to support the club's functions.
We always struggle to get members to step up and work an event. Nobody gets paid to do it. Most of our members are "seasoned" and their energy and drive are not what they used to be 15-20 years ago. I've been one of the few that move fast, take on multiple tasks and work from open to close on show day. Most of our members are nice people. We do try hard to make our show run smooth. Our show proceeds fund our expenses for the entire year. With the money, we pay taxes, rent for our meeting places, replacement of equipment for the show and for bar b ques and other club functions.

I can only guess that other clubs are the same way. The show profits keep the club afloat.
Maybe.....maybe they had some fatal computer problem and scrambled to find a fix. Smart people make backup plans for that sort of thing. Maybe they didn't think of that.
Maybe they were short handed and had nobody to call in for help.
What if a club member in a crucial position was late getting to the show?
I don't know if they announced over the loudspeaker any sort of apology or explanation but they should have.

The clusterf*** was 100% due to the pictures being taken at the entry to the show. There was no computer glitch. The club does almost everything with snail mail and checks.

The thing is, I had to bug them for my one picture that turned out to be terrible.

My Belvedere runs totally fine in traffic, but waiting in line, it started to not want to idle because the fuel was boiling in the carb.

If the don’t do things differently next year, I won’t be entering my car.

Our club started the "picture thing" too.
There was a long, straight section leading into the park where the photographer would set up. It didn't slow down the process for us and people really seemed to like getting a FREE picture. It cracked me up how they'd go to the booth later and stand in line for a picture that ANYONE could have taken. There was nothing exceptional about the pictures taken. They could have been posed in the same spot on any other day but somehow, they had to have the one taken that day.

Dennis....I'll check on the address for you.

There is talk of disbanding the Club.

There is talk of disbanding the Club.

The Mopar Alley club is having a meeting in a few days to brainstorm. A couple of our Capital City Mopars members are going to attend to see if we can help. The problem they are having is getting and keeping members along with members that are willing to help with the events. It is a hard thing to do, keeping people involved and engaged. Our club President tries hard but there is apathy unless someone is dying or the building is on fire.
It is disappointing to be in a club where I am the only one to bring a classic car to a monthly meeting. That happens a LOT.

Tonight they had their meeting and it seems that it will be the last one. They voted to disband the club.
This was sad news. The club has been around for 30+ years and is now ending. The meeting looked as if they might somehow survive based on several people in attendance stepping up to assume active roles on the board. The man speaking ( Tom) said that they see three options.
1) Continue operations including planning for the annual show, hosting it, then the wrap up and then decide what to do afterwards.
2) Continue as a club but have no show. Have meetings monthly or quarterly.
3) Disband and let everyone go their separate ways, refund annual dues, sell off any equipment and close out their non profit title.
After the members stepped up to help, they gathered outside to discuss those three options. According to their bylaws, the only legal and legitimate votes were allowed from the members of the board. The regular members didn't get a say in the matter.
The board voted to disband.
I was there along with 3 other members of the Capital City Mopars club from Sacramento. We offered help in any way that we would be able to provide but it fell on deaf ears. In the 2024 show, they had NINE people helping out with the show, an event with almost 200 cars in the show field and their biggest swap meet turnout in the history of the club. Apparently they were not confident in their membership to host a successful show for 2025 based on the pitiful amount of help and extreme frustration of those that were grossly overworked on the day of show last year.
This pisses me off but I cannot say that it surprises me. Far too many people are lazy ******** that will be the first to bitch when a show seems to have troubles during the show yet they are never thoughtful enough to provide any help to the club that puts on the show. I see the same type of people that complain at the shows that we have had. Stop your bitching and step in to help.
This club here used to have 300 members. The meeting last month had 22 people in attendance, 22 people. That is pathetic, especially for a part of the state where the population absolutely dwarfs what we have up in Sacramento.
When you go to a local car show, go there knowing that most if not all of the members that put on that show are UNPAID VOLUNTEERS that donate their time and sanity to do the best that they can to put on a good show. Often times they are short handed because lazy, apathetic members didn't step in to ease the burden on the ones that had the consideration to help the club. Don't be THAT guy. Get off the couch and help out.

Thanks Kern. Thanks for driving down too.
