Hi all, ok I picked up a new truck for the shop...1956 dodge 1/2 ton step...has a 440/727 in it...if you put the trans into Drive or 2nd it makes a horrible whining/buzz mix sound inside the cab and acts as if it were slipping....now if you put it into 1st and manually shift through the gears it will drive and shift good but still has the whine in 2nd and 3rd...any thoughts? all help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Mine did the same thing, when I pulled it a part the sprag was junk. It still would move but eventually it will fail and you'll be sitting on the side of the road.
I'm not a 727 expert, mine was the first trans I've rebuilt. Had the trans built be 2 other "good tranny" guys, both ended in failures. I bought a book off ebay and rebuilt it myself. 8 years later still going strong.

If something is failing inside there, particles of junk will clog the filter and you'll starve the pump. Slipping and whining from cavitation could be the result.

sounds like pulling it and rebuilding is just way smarter than trying to diagnose and save money...thought maybe there was a mopar noise that could be a linkage or other such problem..thanks
