More dumb '67 Coronet R/T buyer questions...

Also, I guess I was surprised that the car was ordered and the only option selected was the disc brakes. Usually when you see ordered cars they have some extra things.

69CoronetRT - any idea what the build date is on the car you have pictures of? Our November car does not have those areas stamped. I'm going to check the bumper location again but there's definitely nothing on the radiator support.

Updates in BLUE, 69L48Z27

Most things you listed are standard. Off the top of my head, options are things like:
- rear speaker - Don't know
- 8 track - No
- bumper guards - Yes
- A/C - No
- console - Yes
- tach - Yes
- stripe - No
- disc brakes - Yes, I think only fronts
- steering wheel - Not sure
- wheels - Yes

Do you mean the radiator support pic?

B23 is November 23rd.

Look on the top of the support and the driver's engine side of the support.

Yes, build date of the car referenced in the picture. Was thinking they started the stamping later in the year. I'll look again but the car was striped bare and then hand sanded. I always look for that stuff, didn't see it.

Was there more than one assembly plant for 67 R/Ts? Your matches my build date almost to the day.

Yes. 67 R/Ts were built at Lynch Road, LA, and St. Louis plant.

Alright, all of you "eagle-eyes"... is this engine bay looking legit for this '67 R/T that I'm looking' at?

Looks good. Just little things like radiator cap and PS cap (shouldn't be black). Battery cable is a parts store replacement. Looks like an electronic ignition addition too.

Correct on electronic ignition. I'd never would've known any better on radiator & PS cap.

Thanks!
Bill

I imagine that this isn't a big deal... right!?!

There's an Edelbrock intake and 4bbl. carb on the car now, but the original intake and carb go with the car.

Not sure what you're asking, what would be a big deal?

Any original parts are always a plus.

I don't think you'll find a more complete/original car for the budget, based on the one engine picture.

Take the plunge!

Bad wording on my part. I know original parts are always a plus. I meant that it shouldn't be a big deal if someone wanted to switch back. I'd leave everything alone.

I'm still trying to wear him down on price. Trying to be patient.

Sounds good, let us know what happens. Good luck!

Is there any reason I shouldn't buy this car?

OK boys and girls, I have the opportunity to buy this car tomorrow. I've posted one or two of these pics before, but here's the whole show. Owner states #'s matching drivetrain. One repaint. Complete restoration in 1996. Here are snippets of his description... "The car has original 1967 front power disc brakes that have been rebuilt as has the rear brakes. New rear springs, u bolts and shackles with bushings. New u joints installed on drive shaft .Has correct exhaust manifolds and correct h pipe exhaust .The ignition has been up graded to electronic. The intake is a edelbrock set up with edelbrock carb. (The original intake and carb go with the car.) This R/T rides on 15 inch new redline radials with new magnum 500s that are in perfect condition. Interior is in very good condition and everything works as it should. Carpet is starting to show age with some fading and wear. The seats are in good condition, except the rear seat does have two small splits on the seam on the passenger side. Door panels are in good condition. Arm rest bases and rest are showing there age . The sill plates also show their age. The rear bumper is showing some flecks of rust but shows very good."

I just did a search for the area and there are three cars for sale in the area.

- The one on LI that your looking at. Looks like a pretty good original car. I watched this in eBay twice and it didn't sell. It got to just over $27k both times. All I can say is - that's what the car is worth IMO, minus a few %. I never saw this one in person but I would guess it's a bit rougher in person than in pictures.
- EE1 White top car in NJ. This is the car that's listed here too. $35k but he said he's motivated. I saw this car in person and it pretty darn nice. I don't think this car could possibly need anything.
- Saw a Maroon car at AACA in Hershey and it's now on eBay. At Hershey it was FS@$29k. Obviously it did not sell. I did not look under the hood but the paint was okay but thin in spots and interior was good. Car is in the Harrisburg area. Another good original car. eBay pictures it looks like the aircleaner is wrong but otherwise okay. 1 day left of bidding and it did not break $20k.

What did we learn? Well, I'm not sure but I believe that you should always buy the best car possible based on what's available at the time. Money is always an issue but all three of these are close in money. If I were you I would try like hell to buy the EE1 white top car in NJ if you like the look. Those other two cars are $25k and that's about it IMO. Maybe a little more if you 'have to have it'.

Only reason I would be hesitant to buy the blue car at $29k is because eBay proved it wasn't worth that. I would always feel like I paid too much. My justification with spending in the past was - if I paid that much for it, chances are some else would too. If you labor over the decision too long it will consume you.

Thanks, 69L48Z27. I've seen the pix of the White top car. It looks really nice, but not the original drive train. I will look for the maroon one on eBay. As far as the blue one here local to me, the 3 times it listed on eBay it averaged $25,518 after subtracting eBay fees. It's a real solid car (I've seen it in person) but it needs freshening up. The restoration was done in 1995. Visually it just have any "pop" to it. I'd buy it for $25-26K, but it's not an almost $30,000 car to me. For my not so experienced mind & eyes, $30K should buy me more car than this. I just needed you guys to confirm what was in my gut on this.

Did you buy the blue one? I had it in my watch list and saw it closed. I like to keep up with what they are going for. Looked pretty nice.

I'm gonna agree on pricing.

In the past few years I've seen several dang nice driver 67 GTX and R/T cars sell for 23K and others NOT sell for over 27K.

There's the market- 23-27K.

Paul: The last auction ended at $27,100. Never hit reserve. I can buy the car for $29K locally but I don't feel it's worth that kind of money. The restoration that was done on it is now over 20 years ago. It's looking a bit aged. I may be crazy, but I feel if I'm going to spend close to $30K, it better be a really, really nice car.

My 2¢
