Anyone use the "Mothers" aluminum polish and their buffing pads? Those are the cone shape, the small ball, and the larger ball. I need to polish the outer rim of 5 spoke aluminum wheels (mags) Which did you use and what did you think of it? How do you clean the buffer?...................Thanks for a reply.....................MO

I have used Mothers mag and aluminum polish. It is a great product. Steps:
1) I wash the wheel with a product called P21 wheel cleaner. It is fantastic and pH neutral. I make sure to use spoke brush and wheel brush to get the brake dust off. I think it's German. It is pricey at $26 a bottle but by far the best wheel cleaning product I have used.
2) Dry wheels and let thoroughly air dry.
3) apply polish using wax applicator and use a cone wheel to buff.
4) I wipe off residue using clean terry cloth.

I throw the cones in the wash and let air dry.

My personal favorite metal polish on cast aluminum wheels and car chrome is a product called Wenol. It is Made in Germany and has been around for many years. I love it because it has a surface protectant so I don't have to polish as frequently. I believe it is what the US Air Force users to polish air craft wings.

Another tip on wheels for brake dust or embedded grim/grit: I use Meguiars clay bar. It works great on mag wheels. Just be sure to watch a youtube video if you've never used clay.

I too just tried the clay bar on wheels. Amazing results. I use a piece that is ready to be retired from body duty.

Everyone that I have talked to that has purchased and used the different Mother's Power Ball and Cone products say they work real well....some of them use other brands of the actual metal polishing products but the Power Ball's & Cones seem to work real well.
