O.k. I have a low milliage 318. For the most part, you can pretty much tell the motor has been unmolested, except for a few odd bolts in the oil pan that don't match the rest of them. I bust it open to replace all the gaskets and seals(other than the head gaskets) before cleaning/painting, bolting the accesories from my orig motor to it and so on, I pull the cam to put a new one in, and the cam lobes are beat to hell, and the lifters as well. But here's the very very strange part. The second to rear cam bearing is cracked horizonally, and a small peice is completely missing, I mean like, nowhere to be found , not in the oil pan, nowhere. And the odd thing is, the journals on the cam are perfect. Almost no wear, no scoring, nothing. even on the part with the bad bearing........ Can someone enlighten me as to how this is possible, or are chrysler engines just that awesome.

Secondly......I pull the intake, and the pass side exaust ( or EGR port?) is completely clogged up. I got some of it out with a small chisel and a shopvac, but the drivers side looked clean as a wistle. NORMALLY when I run into this, it's usually do to either cheap gas, one side of the carb running far richer than the other, or it's been burning alot of oil. And there is some build up in the exaust ports themselves, but not very much. Not even enough to suggest the motor was even smoking when pulled. I'm running an aftermarket intake on the engine that has no EGR, in some cases that makes the EGR ports irrellivant, so ummm...yeah I dunno.

I want everyone to know this is the 318 I had listed for sale. I was told it was a good running 66,000 mile motor, but I never opened it up. My mistake. It's messed up, and that's the bottom line. I spent 3 days on the road delivering this one to him and it turned out to be bad. I feel bad about it for both of us, and I'm giving him money back.

So I'd like to make an appeal to everyone on here. If anyone anywhere close to Lawrenceville Georgia has a nice running 318, donate it to the cause. Fix him up. Please, someone step up and let's get him on the road.

Way to man up runner! I wish everyone would stand behind what they sell. If you ever need anything let me know. I am not near GA or Id help

Yeah guys it's not runner's fault. Like I had stated it had been unmolested. None of the original gaskets or seals had been broken. We did in fact figure out what happened....

Someone had drained the oil out and gunned the hell out of the motor, more than likely right before it started to knock too bad or lock up, they shut it off, pulled it from the car, and sold it as a running motor. People do this alot from what I have been told. But one crank bearing spun which cracked the block and in essence, made that cam bearing do what it did, so on and so forth.....

Some people never check their oil or change it till one day it quits running cause its so hot the bearings want to sieze and when it cools off it seems alright. People forget oil has four jobs. it cleans cools seals and also lubricates.

I've made a post over at FABO to see if there is anyone in the area with a good motor to donate

I'll look in my area to see whats available.
