Anyone have any opinion on which cam would be a better street cam in a 10.5 440 build in a 67 Belvedere with auto and 4.10 gears, Maybe changing to 3.23 for more street driving later?

284-.528 of the two. i use an engle k65 in the 440 6-pak in my 65 coronet, torqufeflite. 3.23.gear.

The .528 solid is much milder so if you plan to go to 3.23's then no way would I use the .509. The .528 solid would be better with 3.23's but my choice would be neither with 3.23's. Ron

I ran a .528" in my 383 RR years ago and it ran great in general. I had 3.55's and for the most part I was happy but it didn't seem to have the low end punch I expected. Then I ended up putting in a Dana 60 with 4.88's and that little 383 just ate that up. The car went from 13.30 to 12.65 with only a gear change. I never ran the .509" myself but a buddy did in his 383 B body with 4.10's. His car ran well too but I will agree with 383man about not running 3.23's with either cam.

I currently run the 292/.509 camshaft and from the experience it has given me so far, their is no possible way I would consider using a 3.23 gear with this camshaft. I am running 4.10s with a 28" tire, and that doesn't even feel enough with a 833-4 speed. 4.30 gears would be optimal (IMO.) Like others are saying, the 284/.528 would be a much more "street friendly" decision out of the two.

After reading a few threads, in my experience over the last few years, I've preferred a nicely-matched grind from anyone other than the old MP purple shafts. They were nice years ago, but we've only used either Comp or Lunati since, although I have a Hughes in my personal car now that I tried which is pretty good as well.

I have used the MP 284 .484" cam in a 383 running 3.91 gears in a 67 Cuda. This car ran well in mid 13's consistant number everytime. My 69 Road Runner had the MP 292 .509" cam in a 440 running 4:10 gears and It ran 12's all day long. My current 67 Plymouth Satty has standard stroke 440 with the MP Solid .590" cam. It has 13.5:1 compression large valve aluminum Heads and 1.6:1 ratio rockers. This gives me just a touch over .600" lift after rocker lash has been added into the equasion. It hasn't seen the 1/4 mile yet to give you numbers, but if I can get traction worked out, it will surely hang the wheels off the ground!
