Anyone have experience with mushroom cams?
As an alternative, I offer the following:Butter, salt and pepper...… yum
Ive heard of the mini express .654 camI have one for next build. A NOS Direct Connection Mini Express.
A good friend has one like mine (.654 lift) in his Challenger and the larger version (.690 lift) in a Cuda. Both sound and run great !
Definitely old school stuff.
Newer custom grinds are better. Camshaft tech has come a long ways.
Get ready for the nay sayers.........

Would one work for my application and be "streetable" with E85?
(12-1 compression 30 over 383 with 915 heads, a gear drive and a tunnel ram)
And also was the Mini Express a 3 bolt cam? I need one to work with a Milodon gear drive.
Yes it is a 3 bolt cam.
It is relative to what your definition of street able is - yea you could drive it.
I have driven several street cars with solid lifters over .600 lift and solid rollers with over .700 lift.
Probably not practical but can be done.
Both, and for cams I'm kinda leaning towards the DC Mini Express cam, but I also am thinking about Racer Brown mushroom grinds.mushroom cams or mushroom lifters?
Haven't heard about those for decades. If I remember, the block needs to be surfaced on the underside of the lifter bores for the lifters to work. Both, and for cams I'm kinda leaning towards the DC Mini Express cam, but I also am thinking about Racer Brown mushroom grinds.
I had my block done just that way, a spot face at the bottom of the lifter bore for the mushroom lifter. Totally unnecessary. There was plenty of clearance without the spot face, maybe .200Haven't heard about those for decades. So you think a mini express would work ok for me?I had a mini express. It went flat but it wasn't the cams fault, I didn't know what I was doing. Bad breakin, I couldn't get it started right away, and I used WAY too much spring pressure for breakin. I wish I had another. But, that is a BIG cam for a 383, even with 12 to one. It will certainly stop any detonation problem with E85.
I don't think I would try that cam for a first engine build. It would require some razor sharp tuning for street use. I would try it if I was an experienced builder with lots of familiarity with the e85, which I definitely am not. You will need a specific e85 carb, good tuning skills, an alcohol compatible tank and lines, pump and fuel filters. A GIANT cam added into the bargain is a lot to put on the table.

Must be a Chevy thing. LOLMine didn't on each of the 440 blocks or the 400 blocks I used it in, plenty of clearance.
