Mopar said it was required, for the Mini Express, but not with my blocks when I actually checked it, casting flash seemed like the only concern.

I used them- General Kenetics in the AMC
today I'd use a roller
but a mushroom can out accelerate most rollers
except mayby Jones inverse flank ones
doing lifter bores- they have to be spot on if going out near the edge of the lifter
I'd think about .937 or 1" plus keyed lifters if going to all that trouble
