My 68 Coronet RT project

Looking Great! That White is really going to pop the color! What's the history of the car. Find any goodies when pulling it apart?

Thanks, the car is off the road since 1980 it came out of Saskatchewan my buddy was telling me about the RT and was asking me if I would be interested at it and i told him yes.
The Car has a pretty hard life from 1968-1980 they used the Coronet for drag racing the last engine was a 426 and they blew the engine in 1980 and than the RT was parked until I got it.
It had a few crashes Tail panel was dented and both sides got side swiped at one point.

The day I got the car and brought it home with me.

Looks like you know what your doing. Great work! I don’t have the know how or the tools to go this far.

Making some progress, the RT is also getting a new rear panel and outer wheelhouses now my body man told me he could patch them but is smarter to replace them.

Curious what the reasoning was for that decision? Save for the last pic of the rot in post #37, was there damage to the inner structure? No matter now though, all new and presumably straight.

Were the inner seams primed/coated before the new panels were welded in? Installing new quarters had to have made replacing the trunk easier but on the surface replacing the entire rear clip over a patch seems like a lot of extra work. Or maybe not. Perhaps being able to access everything takes less time and nets better results?

I ask because I'd like to de-trim my Coronet 440 and make it into an R/T. Removing the car-length trim strip and rear quarter badging leaves a lot of trim holes to fill, some of which can't be easily accessed from inside. When you think about it, might just be easier/less time consuming to replace the whole quarter. Starting with a solid panel would certainly require less prep work after filling the holes.

Also, don't know if it was mentioned but was this a vinyl top or paint?

Yes the wheel house had some damage and it was easier too replace them than repair, everything is properly sealed off and primed.

I waited until the car was completely painted and buffed before installing the vinyl top. Concerned something would happen to it.

Same way I did it, much to difficult to keep it in nice shape otherwise. Also the magic to this is buy a cloths steamer to heat it as you stretch it. Also use Laudau Top glue and spray it with a normal LVHP gun with a 2.0 tip.
