Hi all I recently spun the number 1 rod bearing on my 440 six pack motor.. After throwing up some....I am rebuilding it. Here is my build. 30 over block. 440 source ported heads and 512 stroker kit. And comp cams mechanical roller with .576/.582. Not sure the power I will get but my engine guy says it's gonna be stupid powerfull and I need to invest in traction aids. Anyways my main question is what gear do I use for my msd bullet distributed. It came with the msd 6al2 setup I got and not sure if it is composit or steel. Or do I need a bronze one to be safe... Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks all

Not totally sure on your question, but I've always used the bronze bushing in the block and used the bronze dist/oil pump drive too, no matter what cam I was running.

Was wondering on the gear I been told the bronze one will wear out fast on the street

if your saying a billet cam, hughs engines has a coated steel intermediate gear , that will work on any cam. I`ve got one in my 505.

I would assume it is a billet cam is a comp cams mechanical roller. I'll look up that gear

I was going say to ask Comp Cams but the bronze gear is what's usually run with a billet cam. I had lots of runs on mine......and hopefully someone at Comp will answer the phone that knows their butt from a hole in the ground.

Well within the last 2 years I bought a complete MSD 6AL2 setup from the distributed down. I need to check with mad and find out if the grey gear they put on it is Melonised or composit possibly... If it is I was told I'm fine

Also a little off topic but any idea what I should ask for my standard forged steel crank... Needs turned..complete rodvset and I believe they were 456 iron heads. Not sure on the value and all my other stuff is new now

I've only run stock steel cranks up till now. They work fine, but don't go past 6500 RPM. I would go 7000 or 7400 RPM and get 250 + runs before they had issues. Not a good plan. Never broke one but I'm sure a couple were close. Stay at 6500 RPM & you will probably be safe..

I went with the eagle stroker kit for 520 cu.in.- will buy the new trick flow heads coming out next month as competition with victor heads. Going with Indy Intake and Fitech 1200 power adder.

Getting rid of the 40 year old Weiand super stock intake and the 6 pack setup. I believe the above will do much better.

My new 512 is an Eagle 4.25 crank with 7.10 Eagle rods. The dyno says it looks good. I ran a 6 pak several years in the past & got them to run well. But a new style single 4 BBL intake works really good.
